At some Korean cafe I worked at —

“Are you a Barnes and Noble member?” and also
“Just hit skip unless you’re a Target member”

I have a coworker that does it on purpose to see if the customers notice. Spoilers they don’t. Mans deadass said “Welcome to McDonald what kind of oil change are you getting today?” And people were just going on with there orders.

i used to work at a mall, picked up the phone and literally said “thank you for calling spencer’s in [town] how can i help you— NO THIS IS STARBUCKS STARBUCKS IN [TOWN]” and thanked god it was a coworker 😭😭😭

I almost say "love you bye" when the people drive away at the window 🤦🏻‍♀️😂😭

today i had a dude order a latte with some egg bites and afterwards i said “ok you guys are all se- … i’m so sorry… i just mean you’re all set.”

I’ve answered the phone on numerous occasions and greeted like I would in the drive thru. One time a guy just laughed and asked, “Long day?”

Also, a store I worked at was previously a KFC so we would sometimes jokingly answer, “Thanks for coming to KFC, what can we get started for you?” The lack of pause from most people kinda proved no one is even listening to us anyway 🤷‍♀️

I’ve had a coworker who worked at Chick-fil-a at the same time as Sbux say this. It’s kinda awkward but also comical. Don’t worry bout it haha

And I messed them up alllll the time asking people if they wanted to donate at Starbucks and I was like I’m sorry I’m doing the wrong job closing statement I got a lot of laughs but some like oh dear child you work to much 😓🫠

I’ve said the dto greeting when picking up the phone. Also, had a coworker say welcome to chili’s on purpose one day to mess with customers and said he would keep doing it until someone called him out. My best glitch was when I was on Dto, read back the customer’s drink and skipped over the food, then went to tell them their total and say see you at the window, but instead flat out said “bacon gouda.” I was dying laughing and the customer had a good laugh too.

One morning, peak summer, half our orders were fraps, partner on reg starts saying “welcome to Frappuccinos, what kind of Frappuccino can we get you today?” Lots of confused faces, but then they’d proceed to order their venti mocha frapp.😂

one time i shouted “welcome to moe’s!” when someone walked into café. i have never worked at moe’s southwestern grill, and i’ve been there 5 times max in my whole life. i have no idea where it came from

ive accidentally said ‘’yes sir’’ to a woman at register and at the drive thru i once said ‘hello welcome to starbucks ma’am’’ and it was a guy
with long hair. he had his back head facing me and when he turned around that’s when i had realised. thankfully he didn’t say anything about it. poor guy is probably used to it by now 😭

I went to a local independent coffee shop (with a menu that puts the Starbucks one to *shame*) and I ordered a tall instead of a small. I’m sure they get that all the time but I profusely apologized and admitted I work for the Siren. I wanted to crawl under a table so bad.

I said “Hi welcome to Star Wars, what can I get for you?” And then tried to laugh it off, make it into a joke… man REFUSED to laugh or engage at allllll which made it SO much worse

This isn't when I worked at Starbucks, but a similar situation happened when I was working at a restaurant with my best friend. She lived two hours away, and worked at a Red Lobster in that town, and she was staying in the area for a few weeks, and picked up a couple of shifts at the restaurant we worked at just for some extra cash. She was answered the phone for a togo order and answered with "(Town name) Red Lobster, how can I help you?" and it confused the fuck out of the person on the phone, but it turned out they called the wrong restaurant anyways lol

One time I said “welcome to Wendy’s” and I have never in my life worked at a Wendy’s

Our store is across from a sonic...and I answered with thanks for calling sonic....the customer and myself could not stop laughing and then asked if she could get a foot long cheese coney.....happens to the best of us.

Back in 2021 I was talking to my coworker about Russia, and a car pulled up. I proceeded to say "Hi welcome to Russia... Omg I mean Starbucks" and we all laughed for a solid minute

i’ve done this twice. prior to working at starbucks i worked at dunkin’ donuts, and i accidentally said “hello and thank you for choosing dunkin” and i just about died inside. but even funnier was when my dumbass said “hi welcome to chilis” …. i have never worked at chilis i just had that meme stuck in my head 😭😭😭

Let me tell you a secret...if you say it in the same tone and cadence than you say "hi welcome to Starbucks what can I get started for you today" 90% of your customers will not notice.
My last store I did a lot of DTO/DTR because I genuinely liked it, it was busy enough to never have to make small talk at the window, and we kept a little whiteboard by the window. In the evenings or when my manager wasn't around I'd tally the number of times I could get someone on the headset to burst out laughing by greeting customers. Bonus points if they were in the lobby sweeping or something

My go-to was always "welcome to in and out where that's what a burger's all about, what can I get started for you today?"

my gf does this all the time but on purpose and customers love it or get super confused for a second!! she'll go "hi welcome to wendy's!" and sometimes a customer has to step back and do a double take lol. just turn it into a joke! if it happens again and you're embarrassed you can also just say "haha just kidding, this is starbucks, what can i get started for you?"

one time on DTO i almost said “hi welcome to walmart!” … i’ve never worked at walmart before

when i was in training, i said "hi, thank you so much for choosing chick fil a--" and then me AND my trainer started laughing.

i once worked at a burger king, then a mcdonald’s, and i said “hi welcome to BK what can i get for you?”, BUT IT GETS WORSE. i also said once “hi welcome to subway what can i get for you?”. in drive thru. subway doesn’t have a drive thru.

i’ve done this before. the sad thing is that the person listening would probably believe you and say “oh i’m at the wrong place i’m sorry”

One time someone ordered a glass of water and I said "meet you at the water" instead of window

There’s an aldi right across the street from my Starbucks that’s super visible from the DT window, and I took an order while looking at the building… ended up saying “Good morning, welcome to Aldi….. oh my god, I’m so sorry, welcome to Starbucks.” The customer thought it was super funny tho so that saved me some embarrassment

I had a coworker regularly conflate his other two jobs with sbux all the time. I switch up my script regularly and sometimes my words get scrambled on the way out so I say some nonsense sentences pretty regularly!
