They may not appreciate the work you're doing for them, unfortunately. But I do. Good on you for doing your best, even when you're not at your own store.
UnderproofedBaguette 53 points 11m ago
So personally I was never taught how to clean like I see you all doing on here. At home I'm a clean freak, but my store never had the time to clean thoroughly let alone teach people.

ThaTs sad. With most of my jobs I just ask s lot of questions and usually aggravate people because I take pride in my cleaning and can judge weather or not I have the time to do a little project.
Decent-Marionberry63 59 points 11m ago
Urnex and restroom cleaner are my saving grace! Like it shouldn’t be brown, it will be silver or white again I promise!
Ethan010529 1 points 11m ago
Magic sponges (if you guys have them) 😍
StrategyExotic7650 20 points 11m ago
magic sponges aren’t food safe and dangerous lmfao
Humble-Hedgehog9546 8 points 11m ago
The bathroom cleaner isn't food safe either and urnex needs to rinsed really really throughly multiple times with boiling water.
Decent-Marionberry63 6 points 11m ago
Restroom cleaner is food safe. The bottle says safe to use on countertops, etc as long as it’s rinsed with potable water. I usually use it to scrub the coffee/chai/frap roast/tea stains and then throw everything in the Hobart
StrategyExotic7650 4 points 11m ago
restroom cleaner is only for restroom and sink wells, and ur ex needs to be rinsed three times
0x52and1x52 2 points 11m ago
You can totally use them to clean sinks lol. You’re just not supposed to use them on food containers and tools.
Aurora_Boreallis 1 points 11m ago
Do you eat out of the sink?
melodiic_ 6 points 11m ago
the sink is used to clean food contact surfaces... therefore use ONLY approved cleaning chemicals & supplies.
StrategyExotic7650 3 points 11m ago
not yours
StrategyExotic7650 2 points 11m ago
not yourS
Ethan010529 1 points 11m ago
That's why you clean with them and then rinse it?
SparkyDaMage 20 points 11m ago
I think the issue with magic sponges is that they scrape tiny grooves into the container's surface that allow bacteria to grow. Doesn't have anything to do with how new it is or how often you rinse it.

I’m the only one that cleans in my store. I hate caring but I use this stuff for my drinks/food too
The_walking_man_ 7 points 11m ago
Yup. That was the main and only motivator to keep stuff clean. I’m using this equipment too for my drinks.
looker009 29 points 11m ago
That is so nice of you to actually clean it for them. Considering how dirty it was,I am guessing they will not appreciate it and will not keep it up
Mea-fae_Owl73 25 points 11m ago
The sanitize wipes clean soooo much! I also love the liquid disinfectant!
Nya240 6 points 11m ago
I know that stuff is amazing! I was like damn I like this
nicolelynnejones 21 points 11m ago
One thing that covering in other stores has taught me is that I will not be getting beverages at any other location. Seriously, I know we at my store were managed by someone with an obsessive cleaning tendency that defies even Sbux policy, but how hard is it to properly clean everything? we do it every day and some stores can’t even do it once a month without whining
uwumoment 13 points 11m ago
it’s hard to in a store where the managers are obsessed with labor hours and don’t let people stay after/come in to just clean. don’t get me wrong, i would literally come in early and come in on my day off to clean, but last time i came in an hour early they needed me on the floor because they only had 3 ppl during a busy mid. we have weekly clean plays, with 4 people scheduled to clean, and absolutely 0 downtime especially at night
Electrical_Metal_106 5 points 11m ago
This is my store. We have the bare minimum labor to do anything. We try our best but I feel like everything is so filthy!
uwumoment 2 points 11m ago
yeah, one day we had a large flood in the cafe and we closed the store, since i still had 2 hours left of coverage i cleaned the milk fridge and other things, the fridge usually isn’t cleaned because we never have extra people so there was a puddle of milk and hardened milk “cheese” on the bottom, and i had to clean it all without access to water because we had to shut it off. if i didn’t clean it it would have been much worse for the next person but i’ve smelled that fridge recently and it stinks again :(
Alternative-Put4708 19 points 11m ago
Don’t clean their store for them that’s not your problem. Tell your store manager and she can share your experience with that store manager and if she doesn’t address it with her team QASA will :)

I run clean play at my store and didn’t know how to disassemble our ice machine and our grinder until like two days ago. And I’ve been leading clean play for months. I wish Starbucks had more training on cleaning, especially deep cleaning. I feel that alot of baristas aren’t really told the tools or how to deep clean and are really believing they’re doing their best. That’s really good of you to clean thoroughly even when not at your own store! Hopefully Starbucks will make a training session featuring the deep clean of the machines, and what to use/when.

Things like the magic eraser sponges leave little grooves and aren’t food safe, but they work wonders on the chalk signs. Urnex works really good for disassembling pumps fully and cleaning the metal milk steam things. Restroom cleaner is a life saver, but even regular sanitizer can do the trick on lots of places. Those sanitizer wipes remove tea stains really well too
Electrical_Metal_106 4 points 11m ago
This! I lead Clean play every week with ZERO training? I know I can use the iPad but it isn’t very clear on some things. Also, I am not a mechanic. I do not feel like I am qualified to take apart machinery. Nor do I think I should have to do it. I wish Starbucks would just have professionals come clean the ice machine like any other company.
Kmsss [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Put In a service request for it!
rhinestonec0wgurl 8 points 11m ago
i worked at another store recently and there was mold EVERY WHERE. even in the ice bin 🤢🤢🤢
[deleted] 11 points 11m ago
Ayo,what?????? And they're still up and running?!!?? They have to have had some health complaints or something..
rhinestonec0wgurl 4 points 11m ago
somehow they haven’t gotten dinged. they’ve been searched before but nothing happened?? the cleanest part of their store is their microwave that they’re not even suppose to have 🤦🏻‍♀️ like idc if they have one but how is that the only clean thing in the store
Responsible_Snow7109 7 points 11m ago
The ice bin at my store is doing something funky. So i myself and others have seen what looks to be like little black/gray thin metal shavings inside some of our ice cubes. Manager and all shifts and most of the baristas are aware of it. So the other day i saw one and told my shift supervisor that was on duty at the time that i found a metal shaving in an ice cube again and she said theres nothing anyone can do and she also said that the store has ordered a specific part for the ice machine and its on backorder or something along those lines. I dont feel comfortable serving drinks to people knowing all that. Like wtf
Kmsss [OP] 6 points 11m ago
Report that asap. No joking. Ice can kill people in so many different ways.
Responsible_Snow7109 2 points 11m ago
Im thinking about it. All unsafe reports about a store are anonymous?
rhinestonec0wgurl 3 points 11m ago
maybe you should do it through the food inspection department for your county . hopefully they’ll do something about it cus that’s absolutely horrible!!
ddebdesdemonaa 4 points 11m ago
We had to borrow ice from another store cause our ice bin broke and we got 7/8 clear TRASHBAGS of ice and all of it had mold inside 😪😮‍💨 it was a rough day for everyone.
rhinestonec0wgurl 4 points 11m ago
that’s nasty asf how does that even happen
Necessary_Low939 8 points 11m ago
If seems like they don’t using use the wash and sanitize located on the top, if they do, it wouldn’t stain like this. No need to urnex anything really.
Alternative_Exam3723 5 points 11m ago
I just spent 3 hours deep cleaning our store alone🙃🙃🙃🙃 I know your pain
uwumoment 3 points 11m ago
my store looks like this. we all hate it being nasty, but we never have time to clean, so whenever i’m on cs i magic eraser the sink and clean the dishes really well, and same goes for the cup caddies. i don’t know why a lot of people say the baristas won’t appreciate you, that attitude assumes a lot about the stores situation, especially in my case where we all want to clean but literally never can.
violaaesthetic 3 points 11m ago
Welp. Guess who will be checking their cup caddy next shift
BeeWithDragonWings 3 points 11m ago
What's the concentration of bleach you used? Like how much water
Kmsss [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Honestly- you just need a blue scrubbie, spray the restroom cleaner on the sinks at the end of the night. Let it sit for a few minutes and then scrub lightly with the blue scrub. It comes off so easily it should never be this dirty! It’s a small thing but if you keep up with it it’s a huge difference in your dishes. Especially if you have partners that don’t like using the Hobart.
watched17 2 points 11m ago
Bro I cleaned the bottom of our cup caddy like the wheels and stuff. The amount of MANGLED HAIR 😟🤮 but now it rolls SO much better
feisty314 2 points 11m ago
Bleach is not a food safe cleaner and should not be used in sinks or on dishes!

Electrical_Metal_106 1 points 11m ago
Bleach is food safe as long as it is unscented and is able to air dry. (According to my food handlers class)
Kmsss [OP] 1 points 11m ago
It’s ECO LAB restroom cleaner. It’s fine. It says so on the bottle.
universenaut 2 points 11m ago
So like a travel barista? Hope you are making more moneu
Kmsss [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Yeah a little bit. I just help out where they need me. I’m a shift manager.
kaynist 2 points 11m ago
our sinks in our store recently got stained like this, definitely gonna try this tomorrow night when i got in
brokeCarGuy408 2 points 11m ago
Hey guys, fellow barista here, what’s the best or most effective way to use urnex to clean sinks and other stuff? Thanks for all input 🥰
Kmsss [OP] 2 points 11m ago
Check the little packets! For kegs I use two packets and super hot water to the top. no foam- all water and urnex. Then forget about it for a while, grab a blue scrub pad or a urnex t brush and scrub it out. You will be amazed. You can use gloves if you don’t want the chemicals on your hands but I don’t really care too much.
Imaginarybluntallday 2 points 11m ago
I feel the same and do the same. I once got a brown sink to be silver again, and it was so satisfying but also gross.
Nya240 2 points 11m ago
I’m the same way. I gotta clean it😭
Noobplzforgive 2 points 11m ago
They need magic erasers
Swordxxxx 1 points 11m ago
I have been the clean play shift for the last 3 years, specifically so my store never looks like that.
MrsOceanGrown 1 points 11m ago
About second time working at another store and it was drive thru only, they had just experienced a manager transition, the previous i guess let it fall out, let me just say. I’ve never seen a ceiling covered in fruit flies. There was no exposed ceiling, all fruit flies. I almost walked out on my shift. Disgusting
