Grande rant (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Thts-atiny1
Ok so this is my first official food service job and I’ve recently been promoted to shift supervisor. Food safety is a huge deal. I get it. HOWEVER talk about nails??? I want to get my nails done. I want gel or acrylic. I want colors and maybe even try those new fancy reusable press-on’s everyone has been posting. No idea when they wrote the handbook BUT do any of the higher ups realize how hard it is to get any kind of fake nail addition off? It needs to soak or literally be ripped from the nail bed in one piece. The chances of a nail popping off into a drink is slim to done. I. Want. To. Get. My. Nails. Done. Update. I understand the logic behind the policy. I just don’t like it. DO NOT comment on this thread if you feel the need to further explain it to me. It’s called venting; if I wanted advice there would be a question asked.
legoshis 203 points 11m ago
tbh i also miss acrylics but i once found one in my food at Mcdonald’s
stonedtwitgnome 38 points 11m ago
I worked for a company in Alaska that roasted their own beans, the stuff they'd find in the green bean bags, I don't want to think about it because I'd never drink coffee again.
RevolutionaryEbb9352 16 points 11m ago
no please do tell
Old_Specific_1233 8 points 11m ago
HOW DID THEY NOT NOTICE WHEN MAKING YOUR FOOD OMGG
embrell 162 points 11m ago
its actually an FDA rule, not starbucks specific. if youre preparing food or drink then you cant have any nail polish or press ons, since it can spread germs and while you might wash your hands very diligently there are tons of people who dont. the only people who kind of dont apply here are like, servers since they dont directly prepare food/drink. if you really want them then talk to your SM, ask about wearing gloves or something (i used to do this when i forgot to take off my polish)
anxiouspeony 29 points 11m ago
Seems like many places pick and choose reinforcing this rule. Worked at many food service places and always had my nails done but as soon as I started at sbux there was no exceptions I wasn’t even allowed to wear gloves.
embrell 35 points 11m ago
oh definitely people pick and choose, probably because starbucks is more of a corporate entity and as long as a health inspector or big higher up doesnt catch it then if you dont enforce it, nobody will stop
anxiouspeony 6 points 11m ago
Like how I saw many baristas at the location I’m transferring to not wearing a hat or visor of any kind when that’s a big rule at my previous location
aee78 20 points 11m ago
That's probably local. We use to not have to wear one, but then the state started requiring it.
embrell 6 points 11m ago
you had to wear a hat or visor at your old location? ive never heard of that rule, interesting
holldizzle024 3 points 11m ago
my store used to require head coverings, apparently the town is now allowing us to not wear them, so we don’t have to anymore!
thizzinpeace 5 points 11m ago
Dutch Bros lets employees have nails. There’s been no complaints of nails in drinks and they also don’t handle any unpackaged food. Everything is done by mixing with spoons and the process of making drinks doesn’t involve nails touching products at all, nails do spread germs and it’s important to consider that when handling foods and that may be why Starbucks is so strict on their policy because of warming??
Ordinary-Theory-8289 23 points 11m ago
Just because some places decide to not follow the standards, doesn’t mean it’s not required. This is above Starbucks and even local jurisdictions. It’s stated by the FDA that food handlers can not have their nails done
[deleted] 1 points 11m ago
[deleted]
anolamadie 1 points 11m ago
I was under the impression that the FDA allowed it as long as you were using food safe gloves, Starbucks just took it a step further. This is what I read in my restaurant manager training from when I promoted to SSV anyways
Gameb0i6 -22 points 11m ago
It’s not FDA. I see people at other stores that prepare food that have nails. It’s a stupid rule and needs to be abolished.
clouds183 18 points 11m ago
just giving your source as “other stores do it” doesn’t mean it isn’t fda, other stores may not enforce it but that doesn’t mean its not fda, could you give a source to this?
Gameb0i6 -18 points 11m ago
I know people who work at other food service places and they tell me that it’s not against policy.
evviiieeee 5 points 11m ago
their managers definitely just don’t care enough to enforce it lmfao it’s def an FDA rule
embrell 14 points 11m ago
https://www.law.cornell.edu/regulations/washington/Wash-Admin-Code-SS-246-215-02325 it is an FDA rule, just not the way starbucks enforces it. starbucks says absolutely no nail polish, fda says nail polish WITH gloves. so i was somewhat wrong!
jemappellelara 2 points 11m ago
It’s a stupid rule until you find an acrylic nail in your food or drink and you make a complaint to corporate cos it’s a health hazard. Okay lmao.
RavenMcG 153 points 11m ago
Think of all the bacteria that is under nails and make it 100 time worse with fake nails. Gross
nicolelynnejones 16 points 11m ago
Yeah when I took the food safety exam there was an absolutely massive unit on fingernail bacteria. You can literally kill someone with the little bits of gunk under your nails, it’s so foul
sirencursedwithrage 11 points 11m ago
that's when you jsut get a little scrub brush and scrub when you wash your hands

(which you should be doing anyway actually)
Thts-atiny1 [OP] -93 points 11m ago
Also are people drinking from our hands? Are you testing temperatures with your fingers? At what point does mail bacteria enter a drink or food.
Thts-atiny1 [OP] -87 points 11m ago
So you don’t watch your hands every ten minutes at work? And besides the fake nails, the natural nail SHORT with acrylic isn’t a Petri dish 🧫
RavenMcG 89 points 11m ago
Then get a job at the mall so you can have nails. Food service my not be a good fit.
Thts-atiny1 [OP] -77 points 11m ago
So eloquent and helpful. Thanks for all your responses 🙄
RavenMcG 70 points 11m ago
Oh hun it sounds like you are very young and just need to educate yourself on real food safety not what you read on Instagram. Good luck.
yoppy_roro -31 points 11m ago
Oh yes because it’s so easy for people to just quit their job and find a new one without have to worry about bills, health insurance (since that’s tied to employment in the US), or the location of the job 😂
heartashley 29 points 11m ago
They didn't say quit and find a new one.. They just said find a new one 🤨
Nextraler 1 points 11m ago
If someone in the food industry doesn't want to follow FDA rules then yes, they need to find a job in another field
reginaldioz 5 points 11m ago
idk why you’re getting downvoted, you’re completely right. our nails rn are already covered in bacteria even without acrylic if you’re not washing them as you should. even so, we can wear gloves at work
LilacFlores 5 points 11m ago
As a partner who wears gloves due to a medical condition, there is already a shortage of gloves with Starbucks. Also, you’d be suprised but the amount of people who vehemently oppose wearing gloves.
nicolelynnejones 2 points 11m ago
Yeah there’s a huge shortage and a lot of SMs for some reason have a strict “no gloves unless you have an open wound” policy (which isn’t company standard iirc)
reginaldioz 2 points 11m ago
woah i had no idea there was a shortage! do you think it’s because they just don’t want to spend money to buy them? i love wearing my gloves at work, the sanitizer gives me a rash lol
zydr8te 91 points 11m ago
My hands are so dry from drinks and saniwipes idk if I want to draw attention to them
StrategyExotic7650 57 points 11m ago
it’s gross same reason why we can’t wear jewlery or bracelets, nails can chip even acrylic, even if it’s like a small chip you don’t notice, they even tell you your natural nails have to be clean and well manicured as well, think of all the bacteria that can grow under an acrylic nail or the product that can chip off and no you’re not putting your hand in drinks but most if not all food service places require no nail polish or artificial nails, why make this post if you’re not going to like any of the answers that are given to you, seems like you just want to argue why you should have them. Maybe food service isn’t the right fit lol
Boink_doink0043 1 points 11m ago
I agree with you. I don’t get why everyone is so fucking pressed.
I believe it should be okay to have nails done while SERVING in food departments because:

•It looks clean ( there should be a special policy on what is okay to get and what is not, much vibrant colors maybe isn’t viewed to be as professional as a nude or soft pastel. Length should also be discussed)

•If you bite your nails, it looks way better with a short simple extension because people will be staring at your hands since you are the carrier of their precious, precious food. Wouldn’t it be nice to see:

-short

-clean

-soft

nails? rather than:

-short

-bitten

-ugly

-nasty

nails? I don’t know what you prefer but I do prefer the first alternative.

Though, the dirt under the nail does not magically disappear just because the nail is pretty. Soooooo solution would be to extend your routine in your job place by cleaning your hands and under nails very neatly. Having specific steps that are you are obligated to perform as soon as you step into your work place. Extending your hygienic policy is only good for yourself as well as others.

I also believe that jewelry should not be a problem, as long as it :

•isn’t too big

•isn’t too visible

•sits tightly to your skin (necklace, bracelet)

•maximum of 1 ring per person (shouldn’t be big, should not catch attention)

Of course, jewelry isn’t magical either. It will not clean itself. So, same hygienic policy goes for jewelry as for nails.

Shortly said, food departments should have greater hygienic rules for those who would like to maintain their appearance while working.
anxiouspeony -8 points 11m ago
Even my natural nails get very long, as long as acrylics. Never told to clip them down or wear gloves. I clearly keep my hands and fingernails clean because that’s how you properly wash your hands as I’m not 12. How are acrylics any different? My actual nail is more likely to break into a drink than the strong reinforced acrylics
StrategyExotic7650 13 points 11m ago
omfg just ask the department of health how it’s different or starbucks not reddit lol
anxiouspeony -9 points 11m ago
I’ll just keep using Reddit how I choose thanks though
Coltan375 3 points 11m ago
Then you’re going to be sorely disappointed with many more things lol
evviiieeee 4 points 11m ago
1. acrylics snap off/chip way easier than natural nails do, because natural nails have some give and usually bend/crack as opposed to a chunk flying off or the whole thing coming off like acrylics do. 2. natural nails are much thinner than acrylics therefore it’s much hard for dirt the get stuck in the cuticle area and also makes it easier for dirt to properly come off when hand washing.
anxiouspeony 2 points 11m ago
I have had my nails done since December, worked every day, garden every day no gloves, moved out of and then into an apartment over that time too — no breaks, no cracks. My natural nail snaps off if I even try to pull my pants up or slip my grip on something.
evviiieeee 7 points 11m ago
ok? good for you. not every acrylic or natural nail acts the same. they’re still dirty asf.
anxiouspeony 1 points 11m ago
The acrylics you have experience with were shit then idk what to tell you babe
evviiieeee 3 points 11m ago
that’s the point. not everyone is gonna get expensive and nice quality acrylics. regardless, they ALL harbor more bacteria than the natural nail. acrylics shouldn’t be around food period.
Thts-atiny1 [OP] -11 points 11m ago
It’s called V E N T I N G. I don’t want to argue and I don’t want an explanation on something I already understand
StrategyExotic7650 25 points 11m ago
sounds like a V E N T I type of rant then lol and in reference to you asking a question you did :3 lmfao look at all the original questions in your post HA
ThisGuyTokes420 19 points 11m ago
It's called maturity. Is it the end of the world that you can't get nails? Not at all.
anxiouspeony 0 points 11m ago
They never equated it to being the end of the world. People are allowed to want things. Why comment on a thread just to be foul?
ThisGuyTokes420 4 points 11m ago
Implications are everything here. And I'm not being "foul", just realistic. I'm not allowed to wear colorful shirts, but instead of complain about something so petty, I just pull up my big boy pants and wear my navy and black shirts.

And just to be clear, I'm not against the venting about wanting something. The thing that got me while reading this was the. Periods. For. Emphasis.

Sounds like a child throwing a tantrum, not someone who wants to vent.
crunchycookie28 17 points 11m ago
You literally said “let’s discuss”
Thts-atiny1 [OP] -8 points 11m ago
Is that asking for advice or assistance
evviiieeee 12 points 11m ago
it’s asking for both. a discussion is just talking about the topic at hand… so people are gonna include anything they think abt that topic lmfao
crunchycookie28 2 points 11m ago
just pls delete this thread bc I’m embarrassed FOR you😭
[deleted] 1 points 11m ago
[deleted]
Allopathological 12 points 11m ago
You posted a rant and expected everyone to agree with you when you were obviously in the wrong. Saying “I WAS V E N T I N G” doesn’t change that. If you weren’t prepared for people to give you feedback you shouldn’t have posted in the first place.
Thts-atiny1 [OP] -6 points 11m ago
I wasn’t expecting any of this bullshit
evviiieeee 13 points 11m ago
you didn’t expect bullshit… on reddit?
Coltan375 7 points 11m ago
Yeah buddy, none of this is “bullshit”. It is quite literally the law, regulations, and the policies enforced. Work in another field if you find this so difficult to comprehend.
dwnonmainst 43 points 11m ago
no bc why can't i just throw some gloves on and call it a day? 😭
_cockgobblin_ 20 points 11m ago
according to food safety standards you’d have to change the gloves constantly bc you can’t wash them (that’s my guess as to their reasoning)
sirencursedwithrage 5 points 11m ago
we don't have any gloves rn
distraughtcato 3 points 11m ago
Exactlyyyyy

nightimevil 37 points 11m ago
Can I be honest? I don't want them to ever allow for food service to have their nails done (only thinking about people who make it, not serve it). I've only worked in food service so far, and the amount of people who will only throw on a single pair of gloves for a single work shift (unless forced to change due to having a break at some point) is disgusting. What's also disgusting is me knowing that some of my partners don't wash their hands every 30 minutes minimum. I get us being busy, and sometimes we forget, that I can understand, but I have a few who just won't unless they feel like it. Those partners, I do not trust.
Vilali 8 points 11m ago
While I agree with you, those same partners also probably barely wash their hands--which is just as gross.
nightimevil 3 points 11m ago
Yeah, I'm glad they're forced to at least wash their hands before work, and if they come back from the bathroom.
xiew 29 points 11m ago
It’s been a rule for 15+ years. It’s because of the chance of breaking or chipping off without you noticing. If you want your nails done don’t work at Starbucks.
caligirlthrowaway104 13 points 11m ago
This ^

It might suck but it is what it is.
ThisGuyTokes420 26 points 11m ago
The amount of entitlement here is astounding. Want, want, want....

If you can't handle being told no, maybe you need to do a little growing up.
LOUD_AS_FUCK 7 points 11m ago
Tell that to the shitty customers
ThisGuyTokes420 4 points 11m ago
Lol I just realized how much this could apply to any customer almost ever. Some folks think everything should be what they want, it blows my mind.
anxiouspeony 1 points 11m ago
you seem miserable
ThisGuyTokes420 11 points 11m ago
Because I understand that policy is policy?

Because if you choose to work somewhere that has a policy against nails, you should probably expect not to wear nails?

It's just common sense at this point, and to top it off, the rant is very childish sounding.

It is what it is, if it means SOOOO much, why not get a job somewhere that allows nails?
ambitioussiren 19 points 11m ago
If it helps, what I do is put on a peel- off base coat then glue some press ons over it whenever I want to go out with my nails “done” and at the end of the day you can just peel off the base coat that the glue is attached to and bam you’re ready for work the next day
Ordinary-Theory-8289 17 points 11m ago
This is above Starbucks. You can’t have your nails done in any food service job in the US
durqandat 16 points 11m ago
As often as this comes up on this Reddit, I can’t be the only one thinking that being willing to follow food safety rules without complaining has to be rule #1 to join the union
anxiouspeony -6 points 11m ago
no you can leave actually
Coltan375 6 points 11m ago
What store you work at? Just curious sense you don’t care about food safety standards…
anxiouspeony -3 points 11m ago
Oh man let me tell some rando on the internet where I work. What the fuck is wrong with you
Coltan375 3 points 11m ago
This isn’t about you lol. Get that out of your head. I’m concerned for the lack of safety regarding FDA standards. As I should be
kaylalynneldred 14 points 11m ago
it’s literally gross. and if you dont do regular upkeep like keeping them filled regularly or just replaced in general it WILL absolutely fall off. its something all of us nail lovers have to accept. if you want to do your nails that badly maybe this job isn’t for you.
cpv_91 12 points 11m ago
Not for nothing but have you seen some of your co-workers natural nails? Some people's personal hygiene leaves much to be desired. Dirty finger nails worn with disgustingly dirty aprons day in and day out. I've seen natural color gels, worn short and very clean that are much better taken care of than nails bitten to the nail bed and cuticles that have been munched to bleeding.

Ask me who I would rather have making my drinks. js
Abject_Compote_1436 2 points 11m ago
Got downvoted making this exact point smh
heartashley 11 points 11m ago
I used to get my nails every few weeks when I finally started working from home after Starbucks but I would lose polish, a nail, or chip them pretty easily? Even when I'd just work from home and wear gloves for cleaning. But maybe it's just my nails. 🤷🏼‍♀️
evviiieeee 10 points 11m ago
i miss having acrylics but they get so much dirt and bacteria under & around them that honestly i wouldn’t want ppl with them making my food either (cuz some people don’t wash their hands well enough fr)
Complex_Imagination9 9 points 11m ago
At first I was sympathetic to your cause, but rereading that this is your first food service job AND are now in a position of leadership I do feel the need to remind you food handling does not give a care for what you want. Besides, why would you willingly waste your very hard earned money on nails when this is clearly a dirty job? Never had coffee grinds under your nails? Syrup all over your hands when changing pumps? Frap roast splashing on you? My hands have never been as dry as when I worked at Starbucks from the constant contact with cleaning chemicals. You are now a leader, you have to lead by example, how are you ever gonna coach a partner or enforce a challenging new policy when you can’t get over a simple policy that is above the Sirens control? About if the higher ups knew how long it takes to get fake nails off, well again they didn’t write the policy that was above their pay grade. When you went in for your onboarding orientation your SM/ASM should of covered dress and appearance, if they didn’t they failed you, but if you failed or refused to abide by the no fake nails code then that’s on you and you should go through the process of getting rid of those nails however painful, long, expensive the process may be. Remember you applied for the job, it just comes with policies that you have to agree with. If you want beautiful nails find literally any other field of work, I know for a fact that even as a shift you do not make enough money. So maybe find something that pays you a living wage and allows you to bring your creative nails to life.
Character_Parsley_11 9 points 11m ago
I was wondering this also, I’ve worked in food service before, and as a cocktail waitress.
I’ve had nails at every job before this. It’s more likely for my hair to fall in the drink than anything from my nails. If someone is putting their fingers in the drink. They need help lol
_traash_rat_ 7 points 11m ago
I find that issues with hair is so much more likely and if feels like starbucks is just covering their bases. It might be more likely to react with sanitizers but still. If they supply gloves that are usable and efficient they could just require folks who wear nails, to wear those. Just easier to not allow them tho 🥲
Character_Parsley_11 5 points 11m ago
While I do agree that gloves could be better for people with nails. Gloved people tend to forget that they also need to wash their hands. I’ve seen people take their gloves off, go to the bathroom and put them back on.

When I’ve cut my finger and have worn gloves, I still washed my hands and put on a new pair every 30 mins. I’m a peak worker and it’s hard to get a new pair before then. Otherwise I would’ve probably changed them much sooner.
Brief_Coat6526 8 points 11m ago
Get a different job
grlcbr8th 8 points 11m ago
Every food service place I’ve ever worked, aside from when I worked as a server in a full-service restaurant, enforced employees not having their nails done. It’s definitely not exclusive to sbux.
emobroccoli 8 points 11m ago
If you don’t like the food safety rules, go work somewhere else. It is clearly not a good fit for you since you so obviously lack the maturity and intelligence to understand why the rule was set and needs to be followed in the first place.
TranceNNy 8 points 11m ago
ITT someone who probably shouldn’t be a SS. Not saying who though, just someone.
MatthewHopkinss 7 points 11m ago
At my old job, a team members entire fake, bright blue nail, was found in someone’s food. Pretty rare but can happen.
sero5074 5 points 11m ago
sounds like you need an office job
lcvefoolish 4 points 11m ago
the way we can literally be in a global pandemic and people will still complain about doing what they can to reduce the spread of bacteria
savemyships 2 points 11m ago
Okay so I used to be a bartender, and I would have acrylic. Once a upon a time my nail broke off into the ice during a rush and I served a customer a drink with my nail in it. It was mortifying, so do not be like me.
vanilllacakez 2 points 11m ago
Nobody wants paint chips, broken off acrylics, and all the stuff that lives under them in their drinks. Seems fair, still sucks. Hi
Mea-fae_Owl73 2 points 11m ago
As someone who hasn’t had their names done in two decades I don’t miss it but damn do my hands have no pretty!
jellyleggzz 2 points 11m ago
Hi! I work at a different coffee shop and I get dip, I beat the living hell out of my nails daily, and sometimes it hurts INCREDIBLY bad, but I’ve never lost one! If I need some length, dip with tips is good too. Never chipped or came off, the last time I got them done they lasted for over a month before I had to get them removed. Obviously don’t get super long ones, but I’ve never had an issue!

I totally understand, I WANNNA HAVE PRETTY NAILS TOOOOOO. IT PAINS ME TO SEE ALL THE CUSTOMERS WITH ALL THEIR PRETTY NAILS and me not having any :(. I understand that it’s a food safety rule and as nice as it would be to wear gloves it seems impractical sometimes. I’m just looking forward to the day that I work somewhere else and I can have nice nails. But the the time being, it is what it is :(
sarahtilton_ 1 points 11m ago
I complimented a customer's nails once and said I was jealous because we aren't allowed to have ours done, and she said she worked at Dutch Bros and they're allowed to and I'm literally so steamed about this
Shoddy-Trainer-8051 1 points 11m ago
Because nails are disgusting and majority of people don’t have good personal hygiene so we cannot have long nails. I agree with this. I’ve had baristas at DD with super long nails and all it did was gross me out. It’s nasty. Plain nails are best for food service if you have any sense of hygiene
jemappellelara 1 points 11m ago
Don’t work in food service then 🤷‍♀️ simple as. It’s an FDA rule not a Starbucks rule. Work in retail or sales if you wanna have acrylic nails or gel nails on.
spookyboi13 1 points 11m ago
I think what's confusing is that, at least in my area (NY) a lot of corporate food establishments that I'd say are bigger have people wearing nails. The fact its FDA standard seems moot when the Mcdonalds down the road has people with the cutest nails, but we can't get ours done.

I have no skin in this game (er.. nails) but I definitely feel it's a tinge hypocritical when other corporate fast food places don't enforce it. I don't blame people for being upset
sirencursedwithrage 1 points 11m ago
I agree with you !! actually in some places (like where I am) the health department has amended it to allow nails not longer than a certain length . so i wish sbux would get with the program.

once, before sbux, I had acrylics and when I smacked my hand / dragged my nails across some concrete trying to drunkenly shut a car door, yeah the nails didn't come off. MY nail did tho 🤣 tore away from my nail bed and all . fun stuff. very painful.
but nope no nails fallen into a drink

and to be damn honest
even with stick ons, I'm sorry but you'd notice that. and immediately remake the drink. so why does it matter
_w00sh 0 points 11m ago
My starbucks actually lets us employees use nail polish. You just have to use gloves on top of it to prevent the nail polish from chipping off and falling into the food or drink and youre also allowed to get acrylics on occasian as long as you use gloves when youre at work. My store provides the gloves and theyre pretty chill about it
almondmiilktea 0 points 11m ago
I understand what you mean. I get that it’s “Food safety” but it’s very strange to me that our hands physically never touch food or drink and Starbucks specifically is so strict about it! It is kinda sad sometimes as someone who formerly loved getting my nails done, I never get to get my nails done for special occasions, for my anniversary, for weddings, for my birthday, for vacation. It makes such a huge difference to feel good about yourself overall when you’re outside of work, and it does make me sad to not be able to have nails outside of work & you have the right to want that because Starbucks at the end of the day is not our entire lives.
Thts-atiny1 [OP] -1 points 11m ago
Thank you. I think you make the overall third person who actually got the point
RebekahR84 0 points 11m ago
You missed a major opportunity to call this post a “grande VENTi.”
stonedtwitgnome 0 points 11m ago
It's an annoying policy, I had to take my piercings out because of food safety, but I understand why and didn't argue. Acrylics/gel pop off easier than one would think, especially if they've grown out a bit or you had super short nails to begin with and there's less natural nail for a base. And too many people do not clean fake nails properly (or natural nails even, gross ass mfrs) I had to wear a long sleeve shirt under my uniform shirt because I have tattoos, gotta love it 🙃
IvoryAngel11207 -8 points 11m ago
idk why people are getting so mad abt this 💀💀 i agree w you. starbucks is the only food service job i’ve had that is SOOOOO hard on no nails 😭
Ordinary-Theory-8289 18 points 11m ago
Then all of your other food service jobs weren’t following FDA food handling procedures.
evviiieeee 13 points 11m ago
good. because if your jobs didn’t follow this safety protocol, it’s likely they didn’t care about any other cleanliness/health safety standards either lmfao
Thts-atiny1 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Because people are as ridiculous as our prices and despite everyone wanting rights; no one has the right to a different opinion
Coltan375 6 points 11m ago
The opinion to sacrifice food quality isn’t a smart choice. You have your right to an opinion, and we have the right to call you out.
LilacFlores 3 points 11m ago
There is a difference between opinion and something that is clearly wrong

It's so dumb. Every single coffee shop I go to the baristas have painted or acrylic nails. The barista at the one by my house always has the funnest long ass nails
anxiouspeony -4 points 11m ago
I get my acrylics done with no colors so that they still look like my natural nail. No one notices.
evviiieeee 14 points 11m ago
this is not the flex u think it is
anxiouspeony -5 points 11m ago
That’s your opinion 💕
evviiieeee 10 points 11m ago
um… no lmfao. it’s a known fact that acrylics and fake nails harbor much more bacteria than natural nail, and don’t get me started on them chipping or falling off. breaking food safety rules is not a flex.
anxiouspeony -2 points 11m ago
Just say you can’t afford good acrylics and don’t wash your hands well
yoppy_roro -3 points 11m ago
The absolute boot sucking and d**k riding for a cooperation in this thread is insane 😂😂
jemappellelara 3 points 11m ago
It’s not cooperation though it’s federal law regulations lmao.

Not Starbucks but I saw this girl had her nails done, she just wore gloves
Thts-atiny1 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Which is the issue. Each company/state has its own version of food safety on top of federal guidelines. Like in Arizona sbux employees don’t need hats. In North Carolina they do bc it’s food safety law
Necessary_Low939 -2 points 11m ago
Yea even though I agree with u it is what it is. Like honestly. When I make drinks my hands always touch insides of drinks, lids, etc but they’re clean because I always wash my hands after each drink. No one has yet to complain.

I swearrrrr! Two of my ssv and I were having this convo this morning!!
PlaneJupiter -1 points 11m ago
One time a coworker came in with nails and another shift just had her wear gloves
majik_rose -1 points 11m ago
Idk ab gel/acrylic but I do know that frequent handwashing loosens press on nails and would make it pretty easy for them to fall off. Ik one girl came back from vacation and still had acrylics, she just wore gloves until she got them off so maybe you could talk to your sm and see about doing something like that
Thts-atiny1 [OP] -2 points 11m ago
They do let some girls do that at my store. Personally I wouldn’t bc gloves are tedious. So no nails for me
LilacFlores 1 points 11m ago
How are gloves tedious??
astrologicallyinsane -1 points 11m ago
we can have our nails done at my starbucks as long as we wear gloves the entire shift
trousersquid -4 points 11m ago
THIS is the compromise I wish would be more widespread.
evviiieeee 8 points 11m ago
nah bc when people wear gloves they think it means they don’t have to change them/wash their gloves it’s nasty
Eastern_Effective_49 -16 points 11m ago
I’m on ur side OP
leopardsocks 0 points 11m ago
I am too! I get it, it’s not food safe. I WISH IT WERE THO!
Abject_Compote_1436 -3 points 11m ago
And honestly, my nails with acrylics are usually ten times cleaner than those who don’t get their nails done. Nails can cost $80-100 depending, I’m damn sure taking care of and cleaning them shits regularly 😂
