i am very nervous to train someone it's going to be the first partner i train does anyone have any tips? also how long do we aerate milk for a cappuccino and latte for? i kind of just do it so i dont know the actual time

it’s 1-3 seconds for a latte and 6-8 seconds for a cappuccino!

btw, details like this should be in the online training modules, so if you forget on the spot and it’s not in the activity guide, you can ask your trainee if they remember (this doubles as a teaching strategy to test their knowledge!)

your SM should be making the training plan and sharing it with you so that you know what they’ll be working on when & in what order; you can also preview the training guides that the other commenter mentioned (store resources app > train a barista) so that you’re prepared when you get to each activity

more general tips:
- make sure to introduce your trainee to your/their coworkers and regulars! this really helps them feel more welcome, plus better sets them up to jump into post-training shifts without you
- if you don’t know or aren’t sure of something, it’s okay to say that! better to say “let’s figure it out together” and/or check with a shift/other trainer/other barista than to give wrong info
- there is A LOT of information covered in training. do not be surprised if your trainee forgets everything you told them immediately or the next day, no matter how many times you practiced/reviewed. we’ve found it helpful to emphasize general ideas (how POS is broadly organized by vertical and horizontal tabs, espresso drinks are basically all modified lattes, sequencing as a concept) and show them their resources: beverage cards, the store resources app, POS to check recipes, cheat sheets (if they’re not posted in your store, you can make some yourself/encourage them to make their own), other baristas

My SM told me 10-13 seconds for a cappuccino and 3-5 seconds for a latte (I might be remembering that incorrectly).

Also, you should get a packet for training that goes over everything you do in a day, and how much time you have to do that task.

Like they do a “my learning” module for 30 minutes, then you do the training activity.
The instructions for each activity is on your store resources app on the IPad, under “resources” and “how to train a barista” if im remembering correctly!
