how can i become a barista trainer or a shift? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lovey12120
i recently started about 4ish months ago and i was considering becoming a barista trainer. do i apply by asking my sm or do i need to be recommended first? how much more pay would i get?

i also wanted to apply to be a shift, though i know it might be too soon since i am very new to the siren. however, i think i have the hang of the store and my store desperately needs shifts, competent ones at that. would i have a chance if my sm and other shifts think im up for it? or would they tell me to get more experience?

I would just let your SM know that you are interested in becoming a barista trainer. The process is pretty straightforward, they would just assign you the barista trainer modules to complete through MyLearning and you should be all set. Whenever you are assigned to train your first green bean you'll meet with your SM before and talk about the plan/expectations. Barista trainers just get a flat bonus for each green bean trained (I believe it is $75)

As for becoming a shift, it might be useful to let your SM that you are interested in becoming a shift. They can do a PDP (performance development plan, I think) which is designed to help you plan goals and develop within the company. Having the SM and other shifts believe that you would be a good shift definitely helps

My advice is to check out the Partner Hub and search up "shift supervisor interview" and check out the pdf related to that. It'll have questions that you can expect for your shift interview. I would start asking yourself if you could answer the interview questions, and if not, no worries! If you can't answer the questions, it would be a good idea to think of ways that you can create experiences that would answer the questions

Good luck!

Talk to your SM about becoming a BT. Grab an ops excellence guide and look at the developmental shifts to go from barista to supervisor.

Hey! I’m currently a barista trainer and I’m trying to become a shift. I’ve been with Starbucks for 10 months. I was told when I was hired that you aren’t allowed to promote until you’ve been with the company for at least 6 months. My advice is make sure you tell your SM and make it clear that you want to promote/ be a trainer. I would tell mine every PDC conversation I had until I became a trainer. To be a shift supervisor, you can apply to other stores and have your SM recommend you. I do believe that they prefer you to be a trainer first to promote if you haven’t had any management experience yet. Good luck!!!
