Is it dishonest? Yes. Is there an actual policy about that? I’ve never seen one that specifies you have to finish your drink before getting a refill. And honestly, unless you’re doing it right in front of everyone who is even gonna see you do it?

But yeah, it’s still a pretty dishonest thing to do.

99% of us will not care or watch what you do with your drink.

The refill policy is supposed to apply to "for here" beverages, to encourage people to stay and hang out, a perk to which would be a refill. However, when cafes closed for covid we started giving refills away in the drive thru to appease people and now the policy is one big grey area. So I think you'll have different reactions at different stores, depending on strictness of the partners to the official policy. That being said, all that would matter to me is that you aren't a dick, like literally as long as you are nice I could care less about giving you a refill two seconds after you buy your original bev.

As long as you don't do it on the hand off calendar. I personally won't care.
