Best response to getting your hours cut? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by skeletonwar2014
I came back from a COVID break to find my hours going from a standard 25-30 hrs a week to a measly 14/15 hours a week. What’s the best way to bring this up to my SM? I’ve been at my location for about a year (longer than most believe it or not), and I find this to be unacceptable. I can’t live on 14 hours a week at twelve bucks an hour.

I would go about it with expressing the impression your manager gave you less hours because he wanted to ease you into get back in the swing of things. Way better than being like "why you give me no hours".
I would be like "hi may I talk to you after my shift or on my break"
"I noticed a had fewer hours this week and it was very helpful to get back in the swing of things after being sick but im fully ready to work my normal hours"

Its a conversation that needs to be discussed after a shift. Also try opening up your availability.. also considering how you are performing at work… smiling, being a role model to other baristas

My availability is completely open. As for a role-model, I’m mentioned by name in several reviews of my store. I’m known in our store for my customer connection and barring abilities. If I had the desire, I’d think I’d a shoo-in for shift, but I think it’d drain more energy than I have. I appreciate the advice nonetheless.
