Worked my first opening shift ever (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by bottle_blonde69
I am a SSV who’s a closer and occasionally does mids and had my practice opening shift this morning and I would like to say I respect all you openers so much more now that was awful. I like the first two hours of it because it was very serene and peaceful, but god morning customers are assholes.

I was an exclusive opener for years and when I would train beans I would always tell them that you just can't take anything a customer says at 5AM personally. These are people who just woke up *who haven't had their coffee yet* and while that's no excuse for them to be monsters and their mamas should have raised them better we've got to just shrug it off. No one is their best self at 5AM.

i made the switch from closer to opener when i changed stores and YEP. opening takes so much out of you lol

it didn’t help that i wasn’t able to fall asleep last night bc i have insomnia but i was required to train on an open

I usually wake up 2-3 times the nights before opening, cause I'm paranoid I'll miss the alarm. I open 2-3 times a week.

I’m a closer and I enjoy it other than the fact of the GIANT list of task that has to be done each night. I tried opening a few times and HATED it. I couldn’t adjust my body to that schedule I was miserable, plus customers are in a rush to get to work. I will never complain about closing again lol.

You could still ask your night shift (assuming you’re not an SSV) to ask your open/mid ssv to help relieve some of that workload. I’ve worked all three shifts as an SSV and it absolutely sucks in every aspect 😅

they are the worst. i hate the ones who stand outside the door like zombies then push each other over rushing in the SECOND we open.

NOT TO MENTION they always just get drip coffee and are so rude about it, always something to complain about. MAAM, a coffee mate machine is like $50. you’d save so much money and frustration brewing it at home where you can get your perfect coffee every time.

very excited to go back to school so i don’t have to open anymore 😻

It’s gnarly… the early am customers are ruthless…& the gm is stressed about window times, wouldn’t recommend.

there’s construction going on in our parking lot and drive thru and they paved over the sensors so now we have to watch the cameras like a hawk to know someone is there and can’t see our times on the screen today so i luckily didn’t have to hear my SM stressed about dt times
