??? Is Starbucks a glorified highschool (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by AnnoyedGoth
I’ve been here a month or so. I’ve missed some shifts for legitimate reasonings but apparently missing any means I’m grounds to have it constantly thrown into my fucking face and then be told that’s why I don’t get hours???????? Yet we have people call off and trade shifts all the time so why are they so fucking hard on me?! AND the cliques are killing me. If I don’t get a shift where 3 or so people like me and talk to me I’m basically working in silence or being barked out to do XYZ tasks and left out of conversations between coworkers. Is it like this at every fucking store? I’m moving back to my college state soon so I know I’ll be moving stores but how the fuck am I supposed to manage?! And also they keep telling us people are quitting and they keep hiring more people but my availability is 7 days a week 24/7. And I’m being scheduled barely 10 hrs. What do I do I love this job in itself but god management and the coworkers are making me so miserable and I have bills to pay. I GO OUT OF MY WAY to help others! I am always cleaning something so it’s not that I’m lacking work ethic. I’m nice I don’t spout off to anyone or make faces! I literally couldn’t be a more neutral person at work. I need advice.

Life does happen and people do get sick/have an emergency. Missed some shifts makes me think 3+ and you have only been there a month. That’s a lot to miss so early.

If you found someone to cover them then it’s different. If you have just called out that many times your going to need to gain everyone’s trust for being reliable even if you had good reason to call out.

I covered my shift every time except 2 exceptions, the first since no one explained to me how it all worked. The 2nd time I spitefully called out ONE TIME bc of how a shift lead was treating me and that same time I was being treated like shit because I said I was running late and was dealing with a medical issue that I also disclosed weeks prior to being hired. So really 2 times I’ve called out without a cover and one wasn’t my fault. And even still doesn’t give them a right to treat me like an outcast or awful. I’m still part of the team. I’m here because I want to be. I don’t need this job at this time fortunately. Had a bad string of luck but I’m doing better

This is defiently not like every store and I'm sorry you're having this happen. I would look into seeing if any stores nearby can take you asap.

For scheduling - there could be a few reasons, one of which is that the avaliable schedule that you've given online is different, another is just too many people (but looking at this I doubt that's the case).

This is more of an opinion here, but really with coworker stuff like that, it's unfortunate to see that stuff happen, but usually due to well... Highschoolers working while in highschool, not every coworker you have is gonna like you out of spite. And I would also add in, I felt like that too when first starting out, slowly overtime though I've gotten used to coworkers, know what and who to chat with and such. It always feels awkward at new jobs.

I feel the exact way you do, I have social anxiety so it can be hard for me to make friends. I really want to talk to my partners but everyone has their cliques already.

I hope it gets better for us soon.

I'd honestly look at transferring to another store. Thats what I'm about to do since I'm going through almost the same thing. Or you can try to find another job. I know thats easier said than done but also no job is worth the drama or stress. I'm sorry you're dealing with that bs and hope it gets better for you pal

Yes, you are correct

How do you deal with it all? How do you cope with others getting one over on ya 24/7??

Agreed with it being high school, how I’m coping? Looking for a new job.

Maybe transfer to a smaller store? I’m in a smaller, less busy store so our team is a LOT less people than higher vol stores. My SM basically says don’t talk shit and if u have a problem with someone else bring it up with her, because we’re a small team and this isn’t high school (lol). We don’t have any cliquey vibes but I think all of us have partners we prefer working with/connect better with but that’s just being human. I would definitely consider transferring bc ur coworkers will make or break your experience. Best of luck <3
