If you’re going to fake being sick to go home early, don’t text your coworkers bragging about it 💘 (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BatWeary
Tell me why this girl I work with complained about an upset stomach allll day and eventually got sent home because of it. 20 minutes after she left, one of my coworkers got a text from her talking about how she didn’t feel like working all 8 hours of her shift…and faked a stomach bug.

If you’re wondering, coworker who received the text is going to be telling our SM about this. It’s not the first time this has happened, and it won’t be the last if we don’t say anything.

It's stuff like this that makes managers and supervisors put on that doubtful face when one of us has an ACTUAL medical issue or personal emergency.

Had a coworker once (not starbucks but was also a barista) who ditched work by telling the manager her dog died. She didn't have a dog.

Ikr. I had an actual medical emergency like ER type abs my SSV seemed upset abt me needing to leave. But another conworker explained it was serious

Right, like if you’re gonna lie, LIE

Imagine taking away hours from someone who WANTS to work & doing this. Rip

RIGHT like one of my coworkers is having to pull 10 hour shifts just to pay her bills because she isn’t getting enough hours. This girl is getting 30 a week and does this…

This happened at my last store, mf feigned sick & then I caught him on my other coworkers snap story @ the Joker premiere 💀
Gameb0i6 7 points 11m ago
Wow. That’s as bad as the time a coworker of mine called out sick. Then posted on their Snapchat about them being at Disneyland.

Oh like the barista who called out sick one Sunday and I discovered on my lunch that she posted on Facebook that she was going to the mountains for a party?

Yeah, my SM got a great screenshot of that because this was not the first instance of her mess. 😑

Wtf? Listen if you wanna go home and lie to do it, do it. But to put yourself ? Come on man lmao I like to say “if you’re gunna be stupid at least be smart about it”
Necessary_Low939 4 points 11m ago
Then I hope ur sm actually does something bout it. There are many people who wanna apply and work here
zoidberg3000 1 points 11m ago
I don’t think they can. I remember when I found out someone lied about being sick and went to a concert it didn’t matter. My DM said as long as they called out appropriately they can’t get in trouble.
Necessary_Low939 1 points 11m ago
It depends on the sm/dm honestly. A girl got fired at my store for the same exact reason.
zoidberg3000 2 points 11m ago
Our DM is very “by the book” and required all write ups, finals, firings etc to go through the online PC helper so that it was fair across the district.

Was once covering a shift for this girl that called out she later came in with her friend and got drinks. Like dude we have other stores in the area don’t be so dumb and come to the store you couldn’t work at today
acnh1222 3 points 11m ago
One of my coworkers came in, got a free drink, asked who the closing ssv would be that day, and left. Thought it was a little weird since their closing shift was coming up shortly so I didn’t know why they wouldn’t just wait to get a drink, but whatever. About 15 minutes later we get a text that they found out earlier that day they been exposed to covid so they can’t come in. We were like… then why did you come in???
awesomechief989 2 points 11m ago
Ok I never lie to call out of work it’s so rare. But if the occasion ever arises this is why I have my location for my friends who work with me off. Just for plausible deniability 😂

And?? To leave us in the middle of a rush to chill at home with your boyfriend is such a sick move.
jazzysoranio 23 points 11m ago
She really snitched on herself, though. She’s the one who put all the details into a text and sent it out. She basically wrote a confession. And it wouldn’t be a big deal if it only affected her, but she’s taking hours away from people who need it more and she’s leaving her fellow partners to do all the work she left behind now that they’re not adequately staffed for the day. If you don’t want to work that’s fine, but please step aside and let the ones who need the work take your place .

Honestly they won’t be able to do much to punish them depending on the state. Where I live you can call out sick and you cannot be questioned until you’ve missed three shifts in a row. You could call in and end up out and about that night and your manager can’t write you up for it. People can just claim they felt better later and there’s no way to prove otherwise. Now her texting may be a grey area but it’s normally going to fall on the employees side from the labor board POV. Now lying consistently should lead to a cut in hours for sure and your managers are definitely going to not trust you and start watching out for anything that could lead to a legit write up but calling in or leaving sick then living your regular life after isn’t something you can normally be punished for. Sucks for the coworkers but it’s the way most labor laws are written. Especially if they used sick hours.

but she didn’t call in sick she lied about being sick to go home early and then admitted it in writing
