Is there any advice you all can give me?(self.starbucksbaristas)

Hi everyone!, I just started the job about a month ago (I don’t know if I still fall under the Green Bean status). I can’t do anything at this job right, every shift there’s always going to be a screw up from me.
At this point I feel that all of my other partners are irritated with me, and they all must be thinking that it was a mistake for me to be hired. Everyone there talks to me like I’m a toddler and when I go 15 mins without messing up, I always get the same “You’re doing great x”. I’m grateful that they’re commending me but they’re giving me “you finally did something right” vibes.
Honestly, I feel that my screw ups have killed my chances at making friends at my store.
If you read all of this, I really appreciate it, sincerely. This job has seriously affected my mental health and I really hope it gets better.

If your mental health is being negatively affected , don't feel bad about leaving. Your mental / physical health is the number one priority! I think, to be really honest, you may be being really hard on yourself. The first month is super hard for everyone and I remember having similar feelings to you. I felt like people talked down to me or weren't being genuine when they told me I was doing great. However, I realized the shifts and baristas too are being told to be positive and supportive. I have shift leads to this day tell me every shift "great job today you killed it". It felt a little weird to me at first to have someone constantly reassuring me I was doing well but I think it is really genuine from my shifts. the job is stressful for everyone even for those who have worked there 10 years.
This is my personal experience but I don't want to invalidate yours, and you could be working in a totally different environment then mine!

This is very well put and kind of what i was guna say in a comment! OP, ur guna make mistakes even when ur a year in or 2 years in. It happens to all of us! U should try not to overthink it. Like the commenter i responded to here said, i think u may be a little too hard on yourself but thats not me invalidating ur feelings, just me lettin u kno that ur only human and ur still learning so do not beat yourself up or get upset with each mistake. Mistakes help with learning cuz then i will be able to know not to do that and instead the correct way of doing it 🙂 when most people are new at Starbucks, they get anxious when it comes to asking questions since its a fast paced work environment. I was exactly like that and I was overthinking it and getting too scared to ask questions even though I thought some of the questions I asked were stupid at the time but now that I'm a tenured partner, I realize that it's completely okay to ask questions because that shows an initiative to learn and that you're a hard worker who cares about the quality of their work but it's also okay to make mistakes because you can learn from those as well. So I hope everybody is supportive at your store and answers your questions and doesn't give you any annoyed Vibes when you do so! I always tell new people coming into my store that they can ask me any questions they want no matter how stupid they may think it is and no matter what I'm doing and no matter how busy we are and they're always extremely happy when I let them know that because I want them to be comfortable since it's already stressful to learn a ton of recipes and then dealing with customers and their different personalities and how some of them get angry or irritated. I know you're going to do good 🙂 u survived each day i were there so i kno ur strong minded and strong willed 😊💜

I feel like Starbucks partners don’t give people long enough to get comfortable. I feel like a lot of people will be looking for perfection in the first month, when in reality I feel it takes 4-6 months to make a strong barista. When I was recently training some baristas I looked to one of my stores strongest baristas and asked how he thought he improved. He said he asked a lot of questions in the beginning, so ask a question if you’re not 100% sure.

Hey buddy! I’m new. I actually started about a month ago too! And I’ve made mistakes at every single one of my shifts so far. It’s upsetting and overwhelming. But the best you can do is just learn what you did wrong, and try not to copy it the next time! I’ve made so many mistakes I can’t even begin to explain. Lol even at the window which I consider to be the easiest part, I sometimes forget to press the payment through and they end up getting a free Starbucks drink. And I always feel bad and beat myself up over it but everyone always says I’m being way too hard on myself. So I’m going to tell you the same thing!! You’re being way too hard on yourself. Take it easy and try to move slower. Even though Starbucks is about speed, start off slower. It will lead to less mistakes :) and be patient with yourself! We got this 🫶🏻

It takes time to not mess up. Maybe 6 months. Some learn faster than others. Just don’t give up. If they’re saying ure doing great then it’s a complement. P
