I just got sent on my only 10 45 minutes into a 4 hour shift like I’m not even hungry so I guess I won’t be eating dinner til when I get home at 7pm (self.starbucksbaristas)

It is kinda shitty that you got it before the first quarter of your shift was over, but at least it was only a 4hr.

Most likely a slew of lunches had to be covered and you’re the designated breaker.

Probably like I was like me? And they said yes like okay wacked it never like this but the dm is here so maybe that why
pettingneos 2 points 11m ago
yes the dm for sure was the reason. if a dm sees breaks happening during peak they freak tf out lol
piratedashel 1 points 11m ago
No, even if there were lunches, there’s no reason for that. Even if the DM were there.

Exactly like i didn’t say anything because I am new and don’t want to sound rude and be like no I only got here a little bit ago but at the same time I felt sick during the last hour and a half of my shift because I was hungry today went better and if they try to do it again I will politely ask if I can take it later
starboienby 5 points 11m ago
i was told to go on my lunch and hour and a half into my shift 🥲 i understand how you feel. i had ate breakfast prior to my shift too. i hate that they do this and thought it was just my store that did this. after that day, i started saying i won’t take my lunch until 2 hrs past my shift.
Flowerfuls 3 points 11m ago
Usually if anyone does their lunch early I have myself do it. 100% try to avoid it for baristas :( but sometimes the schedules are just… a million lunches. It sucks trying to keep your partners happy while meeting expectations 😔
starboienby 4 points 11m ago
the reasons that i’ve heard that they make people take lunches early, from my store, is because sending people on lunches at their scheduled time will cause us to have bad window times or it’s because of peak. but in all honestly, looking from the outside in, it all comes down to it just being coffee, window times aren’t anything if starbucks motto is to connect with customers and be a third place, it’s more of a “here ya go, bye”. but i appreciate our sl and sl like yourself who try their best for their partners because sometimes it just seems like starbucks doesn’t live up to their motto for their partners.
Flowerfuls 2 points 11m ago
As an SSV, I usually have my SM breathing down my neck about window times. We’re responsible it metrics aren’t being met - your SSVs can get in trouble for it. 😔 I’m usually able to only do myself early and wiggle everyone else in at better times but if I had like six lunches ? It’s impossible to juggle. We’re not given a person to run break but expected to have everyone on the floor for peak. But also to get the lunches done !
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 2 points 11m ago
That is so great that you do that I feel like it was just a weird timing thing where they needed for me to get it done so early but I honestly give so much credit to you guy will planning when everyone takes their breaks
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 3 points 11m ago
That is the worse like now I feel sick since I haven’t ate anything since 2 pm before my shift I hope it just a one time thing since the DM was there but still stupid because there was no peak I just sweep and cleaned for most of the shift
peachiez_ 4 points 11m ago
felt this one, there was one time i got set on my lunch literally 10 minutes after i clocked in. i was a closer that day 🥲
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Wow that horrible luckily they tend to give a 10 lunch then another 10 if you have one at my store so I couldn’t imagine that
vodwalyn 4 points 11m ago
Sometimes it’s take your break early or you risk not getting it at all :(
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 2 points 11m ago
Yeah so I mean I’m glad I got one in general
piratedashel 3 points 11m ago
You’re entitled to one regardless. It’s not “take it now or don’t get one”
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Good to know
piratedashel 2 points 11m ago
These stories make me crazy. I try very hard to send people on tens at an appropriate time. I manage to figure the rest of my shift out. Even if I’m short a person, it’s only ten minutes. I’m so sorry this happens!
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Thank you I really appreciate how hard you work to make sure your barista get a break at the right time!!
nondairycat 1 points 11m ago
I clocked in and not even five minutes into my morning shift I was sent on my only ten 🥲
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Omg why do they think it okay to do that???

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.

It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.

Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.

Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

I’m an opener. My break is always that early for a 5 hour 45 minute shift. Gotta get it in before peak!
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Wow that is crazy but I get it when it hit peak you need to be out there. There was no peak during my shift and when coming back from my ten I sweeped cafe cleaned tables and took out trash so in my case they definitely could of sent me later after doing all those tasks.

I’m your sbux mom now. That’s not okay. I have come to know my partners enough to know the ones that want their ten at exactly two hours, those that want to wait as long as possible, and those that don’t really care. I will always take my breaks early before I send someone else super early. I’m sorry that happened to you, and it doesn’t have to be that way.
AccomplishedCover281 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
Aw you are the best ☺️I am new to starbucks and the only new person beside 2 re hires so I am honestly just learning as I go and will not say anything about it when they send me early because I don’t want them to not like me but for now on I am gonna be like can you send me a little later cause it way to early for me to be on a break when I just ate before my shift ❤️
