there’s a barista at my store who simply refuses to learn. calls tRenta tentRa, they had a really bad barista trainer and then he had to go in a leave of absence so even tho he’s been there for like 3 months he knows nothing. he barley knows register, and whenever anyone corrects him he plays it off like a joke and that he “isn’t afraid to quit” last time i worked with him he literally told a customer at drive that me and our ssv where “bullying” him because we where correcting how he said trenta! it’s getting so annoying working with him at this point and i don’t know what to do.

As the shift, you have to call that bluff and send them home. You can be coached and learn, or you can blow me off and get sent home

Tell your SSV and SM. They both should coach him on his attitude and how he speaks to Customers. The SM should know that the partner needs some shoulder to shoulder work, and that he isn't creating a third place environment for other partners! (Literally use third place and the SM will HAVE to talk to them).

We've had a barista at my location that had 6 months of barista experience at caribou before they came here (so we thought they would be decent and easy to train), but nope, they did okay at first but it has been all downhill from there.
We've been just putting them mainly in the POS position, because everything else they mess up on, and all of the leads and trainers here have tried helping them get better, but there has been no luck. They also talk back a lot, and sass people when we tell them they have been doing something wrong, and get defensive and make excuses for what they did. It has been a fun few months with them here.

I've dealt with that as a trainer with a couple people. One of them walked off for break and never came back.
