what will happen if i ghost my job? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by funkyfrog2000
i work at a terrible sbux and have recently went back to my old job. basically some weird circumstances came up and i wasn’t able to put in a notice when i needed to. my manager doesn’t allow us to text her so i can’t give her a notice without going in. i’m more than likely just not showing back up because it’s a terrible environment and i need to get out of there asap. what will happen if i ghost them? will they try to contact my emergency contact if i don’t pick up?

Please don’t ghost your job. If you can’t keep working there at all, just take a minute to call the store tomorrow and say you quit and you won’t be coming back. You don’t owe them anything and I totally understand needing to leave a bad work environment, but quitting over the phone at least means the shifts & manager know what to expect and they can get people to cover your remaining shifts. It will take a minute of your time. Ghosting will only make life harder for the other people working there.

She will put u as no call no show and fire u. Also she can red flag u if u ever wanna return u might be deem as not hireable

Literally just text your sm. It's not the preferred way to contact but if it's between that and NCNS then just text if you can't handle doing it any other way.

call the store?? or just go there and quit?
badatlife15 16 points 11m ago
I think ghosting is no better than quitting without notice. Either way you’re not giving two weeks, which really is just a courtesy and not a requirement. By at least calling or going in and just leaving a note on their desk, at least that way there’s closure and they were notified rather than them trying to track you down. I know you said your manager doesn’t allow you guys to text her (which says a ton about her management skills 👎) and I think this would be one of those one of situations where you could just ignore that rule. If she’s mad that you text her, what’s she going to do fire you? Anyways, you do what’s best for you, just sharing what would run through my mind if I were in your shoes.

A) What kind of SM doesn’t allow their employees to text them?? B) Either call the SM directly or call the store. You’re not obligated to give a 2 weeks it’s just a courtesy thing.

You don’t need to do a two weeks, but I would still at least call and telling them you’re quitting. Don’t ghost, it’ll just create more problems in the long-run. Plus, at least they’d know and not put you on the schedule anymore.

It’s just not good to ghost instead of dealing with situations imo.

I have ghosted a job and I will say I’m not proud of it but I did what I had to do, I was denied quitting. I was told no you can’t leave we need you so I just didn’t show up to my shift the next day and blocked their number. I wouldn’t recommend doing it unless absolutely necessary.
smaidit 9 points 11m ago
okay that’s WILD. “you can’t leave.” HUH? omg i’m glad you ghosted them.
quickthinxallthots 5 points 11m ago
ima be real in that situation you were in the right. how the hell does someone deny letting you quit???
Tricky_Radish4946 1 points 11m ago
When they’re desperately understaffed lol

Assuming you’re in the US, you don’t have to give any notice in almost all the states. At-will employment means they can fire you without notice and you can leave without notice. Just block everyone your managers phone number and move on with your life.
fuwaldah 3 points 11m ago
Why can't you just go in and leave notice?
funkyfrog2000 [OP] 7 points 11m ago
i wouldn’t be able to give them a full 2 weeks, i basically can’t work any of my upcoming shifts. and also my manager would get unprofessional and probably get mad at me, so frankly, it’s mostly anxiety stopping me from going in and giving a notice. i know it’ll be a big issue and i’d rather just dodge some calls and never show up there again 😔
fuwaldah 0 points 11m ago
> also my manager would get unprofessional

No offense but so are you.
funkyfrog2000 [OP] 16 points 11m ago
okay? and? if you’re so mad about it don’t comment. i work a minimum wage job and they give me 4 hours a week. they treat me like shit so if i don’t want to give them a basic courtesy i don’t have to.
luigiismysavior 16 points 11m ago
Honestly here to back you up the other person does not even know your situation. Clearly just trying to be an antgonistic ass the only reason I have ever dropped a job was due to extremely.poor treatment and honestly the worse is happend is your red flagged like someone says and maybe some other partners are hurt by quiting but it sounds like they might be part of the problem always do what is best for your mental health also you have.ankther job so your taking care of yourself financially

i have been in your situation and i'm not upset with you or anything. i have bad anxiety myself. my similar SM (i swear i would believe it if you worked at my old store LOL) has done awful things that made me call out a lot more than i ever had at previous jobs. i couldn't deal with it. so i do think do what you have to. but this person is right. ghosting is unprofessional. 2 weeks is a courtesy, not a requirement. i know people who have quit w less than a day notice that have been rehired. don't burn that bridge by ghosting. you never know where life takes you. i really hope you do the right thing.
what i did is i got my remaining shifts covered before i transferred stores so i wouldn't see my SM again because i thought she would fire me. it covers my bases, i kept my job, and i was able to transfer (i had three write ups, so it took some fighting, but i did it).
fuwaldah 1 points 11m ago
> okay? and?

You asked a question, I offered an answer.
Tvdrone16 2 points 11m ago
You think they'd give you any notice?
quickthinxallthots 1 points 11m ago
this sounds like my old store. i transferred and never looked back. SM literally forbade texts and if you texted her at all even if it was an emergency she would ignore it and be like "texts are not an authorized form of contact with sbx" and shittalk u to other partners. i feel u truly. but also two wrongs dont make a right. the store may make you miserable but be better than them. don't ghost them, give them some form of heads up even if its calling the store directly and speaking with an ssv. im sure there are people on your team that are as miserable as you are--don't make it harder for them. do the right thing you would have wanted done for you.

Email the SM to say you quit - call the store if you need to get their email address

You’ll be counted as a ncns and eventually let go, this happened a lot at my store and the only time we called someone’s emergency contact was bc they said they were at the hospital right before they ghosted us.
