SMs: How can I convince you to transfer me to your store for only a month? (self.starbucksbaristas)

I have this wild idea of travelling across the United States for a full year but it would be nice to get some funds, healthcare coverage and meet other partners.
I wanted to plan it in detail, find areas I’d like to stay for a month, find the Starbucks in the area, and convince the SM to transfer me for a month before I move on to a different location in the US. I’m talking different states, maybe I’d find a state I’d love enough to stay.
Is this a bad idea? For reference, I’m currently not a partner, but I was a 256 before I left in January. Any of my previous SMs will tell you I was one of the most dependable partner (never late, never flaked). Money isn’t super tight and my family is flexible. Are there store rules that SMs can’t transfer partners for only a month? Can I reach out to SMs and ask?

Technically you can only transfer every six months or so, but depends on flexibility of SM as well as the DM that has to sign off on it. It’s just not doable for you because of the amount of paperwork and considering how almost all SMs have their schedule ready three weeks in advance. Just a hassle if they ever decided to take you on and not worth it from their end

Nothing against you as a person. Even if the SM is flexible, there’s almost no way that any DM (who also has to sign off on your transfer form) would approve every time the transfer would have to be done. Maybe if your trip was done in a way where you could stay at each place for at least 3 months, then I could see it working out. I also know that my district in particular has so, so many applicants lately that there’s not even any barista openings for an hour radius. So it’s not like you’d be guaranteed to transfer in the first place.

Actually three months at a new place is still suitable for me, I am super flexible! Just trying to find a place to call home, y know.

I totally understand, the issue is whether or not the SMs and DMs you come across would be willing to accommodate you. From what I’ve seen, it’s most likely not.

I recently had a partner that was in the process of moving from one state to another, with a stay over in my state, ask for that. We post schedules too far out, hours are already stretched for partners, there's so many other reasons. It's sometimes difficult to make sure everyone has what they need and want without having to have a temporary partner in place.

It doesn't hurt to ask though, but unless the manager and team is in a tight spot, they will most likely decline. Good luck!

I know the stores in my area would hire anything with a heartbeat right now 🤷🏻♀️ but so would everyone in the area and they’d pay $2-$3 more

What’s the point of a standardised training, equipment, products, tasks, globalised hiring programs but we can’t move stores easily!

We’ve had people do this at our store a lot. I guess it depends on the SM/DM.

tell me more! Were they transferred or loaned out for a few weeks? I know some partners who flew home for Christmas/new year/school break and worked in their home towns for abit. It was super beneficial for everyone, they kept their hours, and stores had people to work during the holidays!

No SM will hire you for just a month, and no DM will approve this constant transferring.
