psa: syrup standard update(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by 125cars
>If a full dose pump is used in the standard build of a beverage and the customer requests a syrup with a half dose pump, double the amount of pumps. For example: If a customer orders a grande Brown Sugar latte, you would add 8 half dose pumps of brown sugar to the beverage. > >If a half dose pump is used in the standard build of a beverage and the customer requests a syrup with a full dose pump, use half the amount of pumps. For example: If a customer ordered a grande Iced Shaken Espresso with white chocolate mocha, you would add 2 full pumps of white chocolate mocha to the beverage.
Coming straight from the Beverage Resource Manual, which you can access by following:
Glad to hear that there’s a standard for this - problem is that the PoS doesn’t reflect this (for example, a grande Brown Sugar latte would still show 4 pumps of Brown Sugar) and I know plenty of partners who go off this screen instead of pulling out bev resource manual to double check. Hopefully this gets brought up during training next week and made more clear for all partners!

The reason for this is that the dose of pumps is determined by the drink recipe, not the syrup bottle. So a latte will always get full pumps, so it should be 4 full pumps of brown sugar.
A cold brew will always get full pumps, so a grande cold brew with brown sugar should get 2 full pumps of brown sugar.
To equal that, you have to double the half pump.
They are clarifying this in the craft training in the learning pods, but I don’t think it’s mentioned in the owning and advising pods

I’m well aware, the issue is that many baristas don’t account for full vs. half at the moment but hopefully the training will address this accordingly. Obviously, customers will also notice a change in taste once standards are properly implemented and we’ll have to go from there.

I wish half pumps didn’t exist. Makes it way too confusing for baristas and leads to drinks being off standards

There are certain standards that even though I know them, I know they aren't widely followed and if I follow them I'll sometimes give the customer something they don't want. For example, according to the recipe cards, a coffee frappuccino that gets a flavor added also gets whip. Another example is how cold brew should still get the 1, 2, 3, 4 pumps of syrup no matter what flavor.
You're awesome for posting this but starbucks needs to take it upon themselves to make this more clear. We shouldn't have to dig through our resources for standards like this.

Yes let me stop what I'm doing making drinks, locate a tablet, unlock it, and click through 5 different folders to double check this information when I'm busy making all the drinks. I'm sure the customers staring me down like a damn beta fish won't get pissy at me walking away to double check a recipe standard. Arms crossed, toe tapping.

maybe not the best way to do it, but if you’re unsure in the moment, make your best judgement call on what the customer wants and then double check it afterward when you have time so in the future you are aware

I don't care if there is a standard or not. Customer is getting whatever syrup/pump is at my bar.
