Should I Quit? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by lizsol
I’ve done my time at Starbucks 😭 I’ve worked at three different stores. I love the current store I’m at and we’re currently remodeling and will be open in 5 days. So I’ll be able to pick a new schedule because we’re expanding, opening earlier 4:30AM and closing later in the day 9PM so I get first pick before my manger starts hiring more people. I do school still and I like working earlier in the day right now I’m stuck working afternoon usually. Also I wanted to apply as a shift but that’s already been promised to someone else and I don’t feel like transferring stores again just for that opportunity.

However, I got an interview for this job as a Youth Developer basically I am taking care of kids elementary-middle school students. I’d engage with them in activities and help them with school and just life in general. I think I’m a bit tired of doing food and I need a job that I hope can leave me with good references once I graduate university. I know I will get the job because a friend I have also applied and was hired right away. They told me I definitely will be hired as well, and I’ve done enough interviews for jobs and school so I feel pretty confident. The schedule is 1-6PM Monday through Friday. And my pay starts at $18.50, I currently make $16.73 at Starbucks.

My only dilemma is that I guess I’ll be leaving the security of Starbucks. I feel safe working here but I also feel stuck sometimes. I know I’m only 20 but I just worry about not doing the things I want to do because I hold myself back a lot. I will still be working as a server on the weekends so money isn’t my concern. I like the 25 hours a week that I will get since I work around the same hours for Starbucks and make less. I guess I just want some more advice or maybe support? But yeah thank you for reading :)

Definitely switch ur job. In the future, that job will be on your resume as well as your time at Starbucks. Better pay and new experiences. If the only downside is how secure you feel, don’t worry. It’s a new job so you’re bound to be nervous!!

When you start asking if you should, the answer is usually yes.
Wait until you have another job lined up and run.

Take the other job. Starbucks could be a potential career for some people, but it sounds like this other job is more promising.
