Same at my store.
So secretive it's frustrating

It would just be nice to know. Cuz Covid is getting worse where I’m at again, and I just wanna keep my family safe. They’ve been through enough already

If you were exposed to the person they should tell you. Otherwise I’d be upset if my managers were going around telling everyone my medical information.

They can get written up/fired for naming partners who test positive for Covid the most they can tell you is if you were exposed by a partner

though it is kinda obvious to figure out, just see who is out for 5ish days all of a sudden lol. back when we had a huge breakout at my store, our SM was like "no one can know who has it!" and then would write how many more days in isolation the partner had left on the very visible boh schedules.

i get that it’s frustrating not knowing, but also we can’t just give out people’s medical information. managers can (and should!! are required to!!) notify you if you were exposed, but knowing who exposed you is not necessary or even your right. how would you feel if your whole store suddenly knew your medical business? sometimes conclusions can be drawn but i try to be as vague with partners as i can when it comes to the identity of the person that tested positive (not the fact that they tested positive in the first place, because everyone definitely needs to know if they’ve been exposed)

My manager/shifts alert everyone that worked with that person (the one that has covid), and anyone that worked with that person has to wear a mask every shift they're scheduled for the next ten days. I'm in MN, not sure if this is protocol elsewhere.
I'm so sorry they're being that way, you are definitely entitled to know!

HIPPA laws are applicable. If the person that has covid wants to tell you, they can. Your managers can lose their jobs (as can you) for sharing partners medical information.

HIPAA only applies to covered entities and their BAs.
A HIPAA-covered entity is any organization or corporation that directly handles PHI or personal health records (PHRs). Covered entities are required to comply with HIPAA and HITECH (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health) Act mandates for the protection of PHI and PHRs.
Covered entities fall into three categories:
Healthcare provider. Healthcare providers include doctors, clinics, psychologists, dentists, chiropractors, nursing homes and pharmacies. Health plan.
Health plans include health insurance companies, health maintenance organizations (HMOs), company health plans and government healthcare programs, such as Medicare, Medicaid and military healthcare programs.
Healthcare clearinghouse. Healthcare clearinghouses are entities that process nonstandard health information they receive from another entity into a standard format or vice versa. Examples include billing services and community healthcare systems for managing health data.
