Has anyone done an americano with long shots instead of hot water/using the hot tap?
How do you make your americanos: Do you do water first or shots first?
How to you measure the water for your chai, do you add a touch to the concentrate or add it to the milk pitcher *typically to the next line of the picture* before steaming your milk, or do you just say screw it and not make chai with water?

1. No, if you don’t add hot water it is no longer an Americano, it is just long espresso shots, which taste completely different and will not fill a cup. Americanos are smooth and mellow, long shots are the opposite of that.

2. Shots first, always. Shots second is also a different drink called a long black.

3. For hot chais, the standard used to be to add hot water in the cup, after the concentrate, “to the Siren’s eye.” I don’t know if that’s the standard officially, but it’s the general guideline. Then top off with steamed milk.

i am not strong enough to drink americanos and find out- is there a difference in taste vs. a long black?

Yes. They look different too.
I had a barista that tried to convince me that put the shots on top the water made a better tasting drink. And I was like that's nice. It still needs to taste the way starbacks wants it to taste. So shots first.

The standard is still to the cup, but I don’t think the phrasing is “to the sirens eye” anymore as the logo was moved higher - I believe it says halfway? But I’d have to check

Standard for the chai, is to add hot water to cup, then the steamed milk. Our water tap near the mastrenos is always broken. I add the milk, then fill to the cup size with cold water and steam. Honestly I think it makes a much more consistent beverage and don't get why that's not standard as they want everything to taste the same.

It’s also measured. IE you know how much is going into the drink. I’ve done it that way and have heard no complaints…I also think it helps from doing an excessive amount of water (because I’ve also seen baristas do 50/50 of milk and water, which I don’t think is right on the customers behalf.
I do shots on top of the hot water because it preserves the crema/foam of the americano and makes it smoother where doing shots on the bottom taste bitter, especially since you can’t see the shot pull (sometimes they’re dead before they finish…)

Shots first. Why in the world would you add hot water to cold milk before steaming it?

americanos don’t get milk

One comment was about Americanos. The other was about the chai
evviiieeee 1 points 11m ago
but… chai doesn’t get shots and that comment only asked about water or milk being first
verdeuce 1 points 11m ago
Op asked about americanos and then they asked about chais. I’m on mobile so it didn’t separate my comments sorry
