I feel like this sub is turning into “ask a barista.” Why are we answering customer questions in our free time? Am I off base here?(i.redd.it)

chronicarrythmia293 points11m ago
Agreed. I don't mind a respectful question here or there, but jeeze
jsdod187 points11m ago
Sorry to bother you on Reddit but I ordered a drink on the mobile app, do you mind checking if it's ready? It should only take you a minute. I can DM you my order number.
yyz_barista29 points11m ago
Oh, do you have my breakfast sandwich too? I ordered it at the same time as my upside down, extra wet cappuccino.
navkabar232 points11m ago
right like... i come here to complain abt customers can they get tf out lmao
piratedashel [OP]70 points11m ago
How are we allowing this lmao
ItzBoogieMan28 points11m ago
I don’t think the sub is moderated like that
piratedashel [OP]29 points11m ago
No, I mean we are allowing it because there are those that freely answer their questions instead of directing them to the other sub.
miniinovaa17 points11m ago
Because some baristas like to answer. No one is forced to
IzzyIllustrations193 points11m ago
I'm not really sure why they feel the need to come to the one that's literally for employees when there's a standard starbucks reddit.
Minute-General-2090141 points11m ago
I rather answer baristas questions then Linda's question that was already answered 7 times when she went to get her quad shot, non-fat, 8 pump vanilla, 3 sugar free vanilla, no foam with vanilla sweet cold foam and caramel drizzle but didnt like the answer she was given.
Better_Dust_236436 points11m ago
Had someone order a trenta vsscb with 8sfv and I’m like wow that sugar free is really helping after that sweet cream 💀😂 peoples drinks will never make sense to me
diphenhydranautical13 points11m ago
to be fair that is a lot less sugar than if they were to do 8 pumps of regular vanilla
Obvious_Ad_71009 points11m ago
Maybe in the base drink but adding the sweet cream to it makes the whole drink a contradiction 🤷🏼♀️
Nancy2083 points11m ago
I guess it's portion control
KableKyle36 points11m ago
Gods I hate that people think these drinks make sense
kurokittie132 points11m ago
seriously I’m sick of seeing constant posts asking “do baristas judge us when we order Frappuccino’s?” or “why did a barista not have my mobile order ready when I came in?”
darkserenity1581 points11m ago
That second one makes me wanna off myself disrespectfully
tacosubterfuge12 points11m ago
I was having a conversation with a regular today who usually orders at the store, but had decided to mobile today instead because she "thought it would be faster"... we were having a good conversation before that too but I had had enough of DT after that...
darkserenity1510 points11m ago
No I would too I don’t understand where some people get their audacity from
MLGTheForkOnTheLeft81 points11m ago
“BuT thE OTHeR SubreDdiT lEtS mEE!’l
scorpioxqueeeenn34 points11m ago
no because i was about to say isn’t that what r/starbucks is for
Necessary_Low93981 points11m ago
Since when do we have respectful customers here? Lol
Sad_Current_138342 points11m ago
Never, lol. We never have them. Just the other day an older man comes into the BOH and stands really close to me (I'm doing dishes and minding my own business) and tells me he needs his grande hot Americano now. So I go to the front and then the person who was on front register (who is a shift and just didn't notice the man because he wasn't paying attention, we weren't busy) notices and asks what's up. A fellow barista already had his drink made for him and presented it to him while the customer was walking back to stare at my coworker and I. So, long story short, we never or rarely ever have respectful customers here.
Necessary_Low93923 points11m ago
So why does he think it’s a good idea to ask u for a drink when u are washing dishes? Just like how I’m making drinks on bar and I was getting something from the fridge so I’m not looking or in the plain sight view but this dumass, out of all baristas there where he can go to, decides to ask me for a mask. So I loudly said u can go get a mask in the front and I’m like like wtf dumass.
Edit: he was trying so hard to get my attention to, Might I add
Sad_Current_138315 points11m ago
Mmmm, yeah. No, thank you sir. Get one yourself instead of being a literal man child. I swear these customers think they can get away with anything. Smh.
Necessary_Low9397 points11m ago
If he wants a cup or lid ok but a mask? We don’t put that in the drinks Sir. Just can’t stand stupid people. Ya know?
kadulee10 points11m ago
he walked into ur BOH??? what in the hell
Sad_Current_13835 points11m ago
Yeah, he did.
majik_rose8 points11m ago
Is that even legal?
depressedbarista4205 points11m ago
okay hell no! custys don’t get to walk in the back!
i used to work at starbucks and now I’m at another cafe. this happened to me where a customer couldn’t see me so she walked behind the counter to the back to get my attention. I was like, this is for employees ONLY. i felt a little bad bc she’s a regular and she’s always nice so when i got to the register i was very nice lol.
but seriously at that point you need to tell that man to back the hell up and get the f out of the back. who does he think he is??
oh also once a custy at my place walked behind the counter to try to use our microwave to heat up their personal food. it was so fucking weird, we’re like um hello?????? Get out????
RavenMcG75 points11m ago
100% correct. Call me a jerk, but the app and Google is free info.
dazedandconfusedhere57 points11m ago
And there’s r/Starbucks that’s made for customers and baristas
piratedashel [OP]14 points11m ago
That is exactly the reason I haven’t joined that sub lmao. I don’t want to answer questions, I don’t even want to read questions from customers. I have 15 years of knowledge, if a customer wants some of it they can catch me while I’m getting paid. 😂
StormTheParade66 points11m ago
i can poke around more, every now and then I see posts from people asking about how to get hired and I remove them but I'll look a bit deeper when I scroll through the sub
piratedashel [OP]26 points11m ago
You are my absolute hero.
smexy_rat0730 points11m ago
yeah go to the other starbucks reddit not this one💀
Responsible_Snow710923 points11m ago
Yea i mean i kno theres a bunch of em who come on this sub specifically meant for baristas or former ones and those customers complain or rage on about a certain store and how theyre incompetent and then u get the ones who genuinely just have a quick question or need help real quick. But we arent on the clock and this is the wrong sub theyre in. The one that they should be in is r/starbucks. I have definitely thought about how were not on the clock tho and essentially assisting customers. Idk how i feel about it lol im like neutral with it cuz if i come across that kind of post where a customer needs assistance, i just wont comment on it if i dont feel like it but i will sometimes if i have the time
Edit: woah lol idk why the second portion of my comment is in more bolder letters
SkyyyyHigh42015 points11m ago
Simple. Don’t respond to customers, clearly they can’t read that this says Starbucks baristas meaning it’s for us. Not them.
Lazy_Presentation_8010 points11m ago
It's like how they can't tell which drink is theirs on handoff🥰
Worried_Walrus_849514 points11m ago
Thank u
Shoddy-Trainer-805112 points11m ago
I agree. Customers should fuck off
jsmetz10 points11m ago
No for real I’m about to start commenting “are you a barista currently or formerly? No? Then don’t post here, post in r/Starbucks, thanks”
megs128810 points11m ago
Who ever mods can make a rule that states no customer questions and direct them to the other sub
5AV1OR10 points11m ago
I feel the same way, I only really like answering customer questions that have to do with the barista experience. For example “How do I order a traveler without being annoying” etc. otherwise it is just annoying, go ask on a different subreddit
aeb019 points11m ago
isn’t that what r/starbucks is for
Js_On_My_Yeet8 points11m ago
Mods should limit this sub to current and former partners. Give them proof you are/were a partner (a pic of you on the floor maybe or an apron with your name on it, etc.) in order to be a member of this sub.
mechaweavis3 points11m ago
I feel like when this sub first started, that’s what you had to do? I remember having to take a pic and send it to be allowed to join. Maybe I’m hallucinating, it was a long time ago.
pervasivebarrier7 points11m ago
customers reading this comment - go away, this subreddit isn’t for you.
badatlife156 points11m ago
My toxic trait is having to answer any questions when I have the knowledge to confidently do so. If I answer a customer question on here it’s usually because that drive has taken over and/or I’m not paying attention to which sub I’m on lol 😅 but your point is 100% valid. I like having this sub where baristas can vent and it’s not geared for customers.
mhgl5 points11m ago
What if I told you that you didn’t have to respond to the post? Hell, you could even downvote it if you feel it doesn’t fit the sub.
jazzysoranio5 points11m ago
Never really thought about that. Lol. I would say that it’s because corporate is secretly using this to get us to work off the clock and act as an unpaid customer service helpline. But we all know that they will never use any of the helpful data we’ve compiled here 😂. Customers will ask questions here about the same old problems and we will offer up the same old answers and solutions. But Starbucks corporate will never contribute the ten minutes it would take to look through these posts and identify issues that need to be addressed and implement some of the obvious solutions we’ve suggested here. I would argue that if they actually went through the mobile order system and weeded out some of the dumb ways you can still order things that don’t make sense they would probably save millions of dollars from drinks that wouldn’t need to be remade, wasted time remaking those items instead of working on the next thing in queue, and frustrated customers who’s loyalty is slowly being eroded away.
And there are so many other obvious issues that get posted here that corporate chooses to ignore.
kaynist4 points11m ago
Nope, fully agree. There's been a lot of them lately and the energy is always gross. Like they really cant let us have one moments peace, huh? i even saw a thread once with crazy custom drink creations like pleaaaaaase just give us this one thread.
overturned233 points11m ago
I feel you. they should be asking questions in the other subbreddit
hal-pal-2 points11m ago
Totally agree. Customers at my store refuse to say thank you or hello. I would rather roll in hot coals than answer one of their questions, no cap.
Humble-Hedgehog95462 points11m ago
If you ordered 8 drinks and stand there to gawk at us when we're working on them and say 2 people ahead of your order ordered several drinks too... its going to be a wait and baristas are going to be a tad less attentive to your 15 questions that cause them to stop while they're trying to finish the drinks in a timely manner.
uwumoment1 points11m ago
it’s always them asking why their drink was made wrong or some bs like this is our place not yours.
Johanito691 points11m ago
I only come here to share my 2 cents about how much this job makes me want to kill myself. I also tell certain customer wether or not id kill myself in front of them to change the permanent course of their lives
