Wear the bandanna or don’t wear the bandanna? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Holiday_Pop8647
So I’ve just started at a new store because I moved to a different state. I really like my new store and while I was opening with my manager this morning she told me that I can’t wear a bandanna, like I did at my previous store, instead of a hat because the dm doesn’t like the baristas wearing them. I know that a black bandanna is in dress code (at least I’m pretty sure). I normally wouldn’t care but I get acne on my forehead which is why I started wearing the bandanna in the first place because my head was super irritated after 5-8 hour shifts 5 days a week. Should I keep wearing the bandanna because there’s nothing in the dress code that says I can’t or just start wearing a hat or visor?

Honestly if you tell them why you wear one and point out that it is within dress code, your manager should understand and let you wear it. If not, then they honestly are strange and just get a visor. You could escalate it to district manager but it's not worth the hassle imo

I would ditto this but the district manager is the one with the issue with bandanas

they don’t have the right to tell you not to wear something that’s in dress code just because they “don’t like it”

Confirm this “claim” directly with the DM.

I wear a bandana!

As long as the color is in dress code and your hair is pulled back and tied off (if it is long enough that you can do so)—then you are in code!

Beanies are fine! Headscarves and wraps are fine! If they are fine, then black bandana should be good too!

Some of us have too much hair for hats to work.

Some of us have medical conditions that make hats uncomfortable.

And some of us will manage to concuss themselves on the drive-through window lintel or shelves given the limited field of view provided by a hat!

Pretty sure the dress code literally says that they want you to bring “your authentic self” to work with you by not overly-limiting your dress options.

Some stores because of the health dept are required to wear a hat. Is that the situation for your store, if so then a bandana will not do. If not then wear it! The DM is not allowed to change a Starbucks policy/standard based on personal preference.

It says in the dress code that bandannas aren’t actually allowed, fairly certain.

They are as long as they are in the color palette and your hair is still tied back if you need to have it tied back
