union busting or actually the truth? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by evviiieeee
my store recently unionized, and know we’re having partners who previously worked at our store before it unionized that transferred to other locations be told that they now cannot transfer back for “legal reasons.” essentially our DM is saying baristas from non-unionized stores cannot transfer to unionized stores. can anyone confirm this or debunk it??

This is a union busting tactic. Just call the stores union rep and get them involved

I think legally there probably isn’t any reason that it wouldn’t be possible, but it is probably a union busting tactic by corporate, the same way they said earlier that baristas at unionized stores wouldn’t be able to pick up shifts a month unionized stores

Contact your union rep and file an ULP.

I think this is true when they are in the negotiation stage. There shouldn't be anything preventing transfers until then. I could be wrong though.

I'm transferring to a new store soon but I was told if they win their vote I'll have to be pulled back unless I chose to sign in with the union in which case I wouldn't be allowed to transfer back.

they are lying to you

My SM was told that would be the case when the first store unionized and that a unionized store would not even be allowed to borrow partners from non unionized stores as they will now be considered a license store since the employees now technically work for the union and not corporate. She only told a couple of the shifts that and won't say another word about unions.
Not sure if that's the truth or something they're scaring SMs with so they will be anti-union.

she’s lying, union stores work for starbucks,,, unions don’t sign paychecks . they aren’t corporations. think about it like target pays the baristas and target has to buy all the ingredients for the store and provide target benefits and wages. unions don’t do any of that . i hope this makes sense

That makes sense. The DM that told her that left the company. My dad was a union construction worker and got jobs through the union, so I wasn't sure if it was a similar situation.

yeah but it’s weird because we have a partner that transferred to our store (before we unionized) from a unionized store. it’s just weird that it only goes one way

We were under the impression it would go both ways, but the DM that told her that is no longer with the company and everyone is happier for it. So they could have totally been lying.
