Why does Starbucks taste so good when it’s free and so bad when it’s not?? (self.starbucksbaristas)

For example I used to always get nitro cold brews for my morning shifts. They’re pretty good in the mornings ngl lots of caffeine and not too much sugar. And they’re free
I got one on my way to the gym the other day and even after using my partner discount it was almost $4 for a tall. I drank it and just questioned why I paid so much for that. It’s not even good. I rarely buy Starbucks off shift regardless cause I typically refuse to pay for something I could get free the next day but I needed the energy.
Same for caramel macchiatos and mochas. So good mid shift when they’re free. Not so good when you paid $5 for it.

I honestly feel the same. Like it got to a point when I don't get what customers even get out of coming here since they have to pay lol

I feel like if I'm not making it it tastes bad lol but maybe I'm just too picky. I never go in my off time unless im with a friend and they want it.

honestly I feel the opposite. I don’t even make myself drinks anymore bc they gross me out but when im off and go buy starbucks it’s so yummy

YES i spent like 2.50 after my discount getting a tall iced green tea that was hideous and i was just thinking “people spent $10+ on this shit daily???” like
to me it’s so funny because i didn’t get starbucks AT ALL before I started working there and all working there has shown me is how much i STILL wouldn’t consume their products if i wasn’t getting it for free lol

Yeah I’ve been out for almost 3 weeks between a trip, and moving and transferring to a new store. My mom got me a caramel macchiato yesterday and it just didn’t hit the Same.
