The other day we got a comment saying the window person engaged in conversation and how they found that annoying lmao, you think corporate would listen to us
cookiemonstah87 11 points 11m ago
Before I was a barista, I honestly left a few comments like "the staff is efficient and super friendly! Probably too friendly. I just wanted to order my coffee and move on, but the person at the register was talking like we've been friends for years (we've never met). I intended to stay and study for a bit, but I ended up taking my coffee and leaving because I felt too awkward to stay."

Note: I almost never leave comments. Especially negative ones. The fact that I hardly ever went to Starbucks before working there, and yet distinctly remember two separate occasions in college when I left similar comments is... well, let's just say I've never been able to break the "this person clearly doesn't want to chat so I'll refrain from asking them their favorite Muppet Show muppet" mindset.
dthomp0806 11 points 11m ago
This is why I don't bother people. If I went to a store and they talked to me like we're expected to talk to our customers, I would never go back to that store again. All I need is hello, thank you, have a good day.
cookiemonstah87 2 points 11m ago
Same. I've even stopped shopping at stores where too many people ask if I'm finding everything alright. I like how Ikea does it. Employees exist and are easy to spot in their horrible yellow polos, but they generally don't talk to shoppers at all unless one talks to them first. Leave me be, I'll ask if I need help but I usually don't because I'd rather spend more time figuring it out myself than interacting with an employee.
ithotuknew 164 points 11m ago
I legitimately don’t see where the issue is, this customer is delusional 🤨
majik_rose [OP] 203 points 11m ago
This happens a lot at my store. I’ll be on bar and hand a customer their drink and they’re immediately like “uh I had a food item” and its getting annoying bc they act like we aren’t making it at all or something and idrk what they want, like sorry I didn’t make your food while I was making your drink I guess 🙃
Responsible_Snow7109 112 points 11m ago
Lol the effed up part is that they literally stand there and stare u down at ur every move behind the counter. Then they also see u hand out drink after drink and probably sees the other barista (on ovens) bringing food to the hand off and yet...they still dont realize lol
mrcupcake18 16 points 11m ago
Exactly!!! Also I haaaaaate when they stand at the bar! I always if they need something and I try to tell them in the nicest way possible to please sit and wait away from the bar without telling them get away from my bar lol I have however have seen a couple of coffee shops where they have signs that say “please don’t stand at the bar” but in a cute fun way and I WISH we could have something like that!
Responsible_Snow7109 5 points 11m ago
Lol yea i wish i could tell my customers to stand back a little without coming off harsh or without offending them because I can say it is nicely as I want but some people might just still take it the wrong way I feel like. Some people just might get offended that you told them to stand back even if it's in a nice way. But back when covid first started and everything was just intense and new, we had those round stickers on the ground at the handoff area for people to stand on while they wait for their drinks and I remember we still had people standing up by the counter at handoff and one of the shift supervisors I had at that time would not be scared to tell people to stand back and some of them would get offended but like he did have a harsh tone though but people were constantly standing up against the counter and they weren't supposed to because that was the beginning of covid and that's why we had stickers place on the ground so people can stand a safe distance apart while waiting for their drinks but a ton of people didn't even care and listen to that kind of stuff
Adeptness-Lucky 54 points 11m ago
This is one of my biggest pet peeves! I try to handle it by looking at them with a very polite but extremely obvious face, and I say, “...yes. *points to the warming station waaaaaaay away from my assigned spot* and so-and-so will have that out for you as soon as she’s finished....”

It’s these little things us baristas deal with that honestly end up eating away at our moral when it happens 20 times a day....
shipssiren 2 points 11m ago
Another big one, people coming up and spitting out drink orders at the bar. How tf does this look like a register to you
lilmissambersue 13 points 11m ago
That happens at our store too because we only have one oven so people's drinks come out way quick. I've started to pay attention to the number of items in their order and when I hand them a drink I'll ask "did you get some food as well? It will be out in a minute or 2" so I just beat them to the punch then they can't say anything lol
[deleted] 11 points 11m ago
And the main problem is even though they are watching your every move while making the drink, they just can't seem to see that we don't have ducking food at the bar for them,at all!!!!
CTcoreyCT 3 points 11m ago
Customers are stupid, we know this. It’s like going to McDonald’s and getting your burger, then your fries, then your drink. It doesn’t happen. You guys, order consolidation. Hand out the entire order at the same time to try avoid this issue. It’s a standard. There’s a QRG on the hub to help explain this. But even with this, they will still most times be stupid. “I want my drink while I wait for my food, I want my food while I wait for my drink, etc.”
miakodank 2 points 11m ago
And like we’re usually supposed to hand out all the items at once to avoid this issue, except people will see their drink and be like is that mine and reach over to take it , and then the other baristas won’t call out the rest of the order because they think they are still waiting for the other ones when the customer already has it. So either way people are gonna be pissy and dumb :/
shipssiren 1 points 11m ago
My manager started straight up telling them "It'll come out once its ready, I don't make the food, just the drinks."
Lightheaded_gamer 6 points 11m ago
This brings back ww1 memories. Lol

Legit the impression these customers are under that starbucks baristas are all hive mind and know exactly what they ordered is astonishing. These customers actually either think that baristas are robots or all the same "waiter" that took their order. 🥴
marklandia 0 points 11m ago
It’s because at drive-thrus, we gather a customer’s entire order before handing it out, even at the walk-up window.
Ok-Assumption-1793 135 points 11m ago
i told someone that we we’re having problems with our bags so i handed it to him so his ham and swiss panini wouldn’t drop and he said “can i just have another bag that doesn’t break?” in which i said “when we get them in i definitely will :)”
graylikesoap 51 points 11m ago
we also only have two hands. i cannot give you 5 sandwiches at once. hold on
shesallglowedup 46 points 11m ago
People are always like ummmm I ordered two drinks, bestie I’m literally making the second one as we speak calm down turbo
majik_rose [OP] 5 points 11m ago
Turbo 😭
Nervous_Procedure_86 41 points 11m ago
One of ours said "the baristas look miserable"
Nervous_Procedure_86 30 points 11m ago
So our manager has been telling us to watch our facial expressions 🙃

Customers are mentally stupid
smoolbeean 24 points 11m ago
my fave negative comment so far is “my iced tea had a flavored taste to it.”
giftwrapartist 8 points 11m ago
How dare you make your iced teas with flavor.

Capricious-Coco 20 points 11m ago
*only barista on bar* *hands customers drinks as I make them* customer: “Um I had two other drinks”
They sure do but I am one person who can only finish one drink at a time.
pastabreadpasta 6 points 11m ago
“me robot boop beep beep me make drink”
zipblockbag 17 points 11m ago
We put the green stickers over the seam of the panini bags to prevent the breaking issue
BatWeary 7 points 11m ago
even that isn’t foolproof unfortunately 😭 two paninis and a spinach feta fell victim
croissantboyy 16 points 11m ago
bro i hate when i hand them one drink and they're like "uh i'm still waiting on two more drinks" ESPECIALLY when i'm the only one on bar. if they catch me on a bad day i just respond with "and i only have two hands. your other drinks will be out in a moment" which is still way nicer than i wanna be. it's to the point where when i know i'm handing out one of multiple drinks i give the customer the drink and before they get a chance to open their mouth i say "your other beverages will be out in a moment" and half the time they STILL fucking say they ordered more drinks. like bro i get so fuckin tight when they pull that shit
nicolelynnejones 10 points 11m ago
I’m starting to think my store is the only one that gathers and stages orders 🙁
lanceofruin 12 points 11m ago
my store does but when it gets busy the customers get SO grabby. like we keep the items far back when an order is incomplete and the second there isn’t a barista looking at handoff they reach over and start touching everything 😭 like please we’re just trying to make sure you get all your stuff we’re not holding your items hostage just for fun
gabbysafari 9 points 11m ago
trust me, i wish we could gather orders at my store but we already don’t have enough counter space to make the drinks & food, let alone hold multiple orders before we can hand them out 🥲
nicolelynnejones 1 points 11m ago
it literally takes up so much space and is so inefficient
cliche-kid 2 points 11m ago
My store isn't allowed to schedule enough people to have someone stationed on handoff so we literally cannot lmao it sucks
MurkyDepths 2 points 11m ago
It probably is, congrats
nicolelynnejones 3 points 11m ago
I hate it and custies don’t get it either, they just ask why their drink has been sitting while the foods heated
CTcoreyCT 6 points 11m ago
Wonder what they do at McDonald’s, or Burger King, or chipotle, or any other restaurant where they place an order and receive the entire order all at once. It’s the most common way.
nicolelynnejones 3 points 11m ago
right! like i don’t hate the idea but the execution sucks! tbf i’ve never been to another starbucks or even a different coffee shop that handed out everything all at once. the custies at my store get really upset when they see their coffee or sandwich sitting by the DOM waiting for the next item(s)
control-z 1 points 11m ago
Yeah I hand off all the drinks in the order together and let them know the food’s on the way. We don’t have room on our tiny handoff either but I’d rather do that than hand drinks off one by one to multiple customers still asking where the rest of their order is.
CTcoreyCT 1 points 11m ago
Right?!?! I’m reading these comments like “what?!” It really is a necessity, in addition to the right way. It helps somewhat alleviate these issues and frustrations.
Mean-Grass8935 8 points 11m ago
It’s so surreal when I have a customer being sweet and thankful and happy with us and then immediately after I have someone acting like it was the worst experience of their life. Duality?? 🫠🫠🫠
psionicillusionist 8 points 11m ago
I finally figured out exactly where the disconnect was happening about a year and a half into my time at Starbs. They're used to old-days fast food, like how McDonald's used to give you your whole tray with fries, meal, drink, etc. and that was that, but because Starbucks separates the responsibilities and only the bar is really geared for being something of an assembly line, customers get confused about receiving their order in pieces rather than altogether.

It was exhausting explaining the conceot of different stations to customers, and sometimes people were still grumpy and demanding all of their items at once (even though their drink was ready, and they wanted it immediately), but often customers seem at worst a little annoyed but calmer and more understanding.

I'd anticipate if someone had a food item by reading their drink ticket and checking the order amount. I'd ask if they were waiting on food too, and at their confirmation assure them that their food item was being attended to (unless POS was a green bean covering warming, then I'd check in with them).

Also @op you're so freaking valid, I hate it when they write a complaint instead of just goddamn asking about it.
Decent_Wall1380 6 points 11m ago
one of ours said “store is too small and should be a drive through”. we are fully inside a mall.
desi_luwu 3 points 11m ago
Where do I find this cause now I'm curious about my store 💀
Capricious-Coco 3 points 11m ago
Our store usually posts paper copies of them with other updates somewhere in the back
desi_luwu 1 points 11m ago
Cries in small backroom 😭 I didn't even know the stores have customer surveys and feedback
sorrysmithy 2 points 11m ago
this is one of my biggest pet peeves. i’ll hand them a frap and they don’t say thank you, instead immediately asking where the rest of their items are. i’m like… bitch does it look like i have an oven in front of me on cold bar? no. mind ya business. or when people try to order at the handoff plane. uhhh does it LOOK like i have a cash register in front of me? don’t even get me started on the customers who shout their order at you when you’re 20 ft away from them and just said hi when they walked through the doors. OR when people pull up to the dt speaker box and say HeLlO?!?!??!? sometimes i make them wait for no reason because they were so impatient lmao
majik_rose [OP] 2 points 11m ago
Btw we have very limited counter space and a small staff, handing off orders all together would get troublesome pretty fast. If we aren’t busy or if their drinks can be sequenced I’ll usually try to hand them off together (trust me I’d prefer not to call out the same person 5 different times), but it’s kinda hard to hand off everything together when the drinks can’t be sequenced together and it’s busy. Also, very high likelihood that if we waited until their food was done to give them their order they’d complain about how we didn’t give them their order right away 🙃 certain customers will always find something to complain about there’s no way around it
almostdied_at711 2 points 11m ago
The minute someone orders a food item (if it isn't busy) I tell them that it will take longer then their drinks and to please be patient
BlooperBoo 1 points 11m ago
This is why if Im on bar I wait for all the drinks to be done before calling them out.

If you call out one theyll ask you where the rest are EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. EVERY TIME. Its so predictable. I just. Ahh.
IzzyIllustrations 1 points 11m ago
I love the assumption that you guys just gave them a bag with a hole in it when in reality all of the bags suck and are busted. Same with the damn cold lids 🙄
mrcupcake18 1 points 11m ago
Tf is THEIR thought process?! I would hand things one by one like that too so it shows like “hey I know you have more stuff but I’m handing this to you so you know I am actively working on your order” and I even tell them when I hadn’t them one of their orders like “here is your *item* I’m still working on etc.” because as they said “I oNlY hAvE tWo HaNdS” well so do I lol
RubySapphireSage 1 points 11m ago
I never thought people actually did survey comments
Also , they would clearly see I’m on bar and look at the over person and continue to ask knowing they see the person on oven bagging food for them , it so annoying .

And this is why I tell baristas to not call the order out until it is completely done🤦🏽‍♀️
