is it true that it’s a new starbucks rule that you HAVE to go to another store if urs closes down for the day. cuz it was literally 45 minutes away from the start of my shift and my manager calls me while i’m walking and tells i have to go to another store and i more or less ask if i’m required to and they said yes so…i just wanna know if that’s true
dlcksuck30 points11m ago
I’ve never ever heard of that being required. Unless it’s been changed recently and I missed it which I doubt. I have social anxiety and really don’t like covering shifts at other stores. My manager knows this and the only time she offers for me to cover at another store is if I lose hours at my store. But even in that situation it’s ultimately my decision if I want to make up those hours or not. Hope this helps!!

me too, so it’s sucks that he’s making me do this lmao
NOTcreative-3 points11m ago
When Covid policies were first put in place, if your store closed due to a Covid exposure you were expected to support a store within a reasonable distance. I doubt it’s still the policy.
leytb [OP]3 points11m ago
idk but we aren’t closed due to a covid thing
oftbkk8 points11m ago
it’s not required. if you want hours then yeah you have to but no it’s not requ
leytb [OP]7 points11m ago
then why is this man telling me it’s required wtf i swear i hate this job 🫠
leytb [OP]4 points11m ago
And if it is it’s total bullshit?? i applied to the store i’m suppose to be working at??? and now i have to worry about working w other ppl i don’t know when i’m already stressed about customers
leytb [OP]3 points11m ago
it’s ok cuz i only got 20 more days until i leave starbucks for good 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Zealousideal-Star4481 points11m ago
Tell your manager no, say you budget your gas for the mileage to that store and unless they want to pay for ya then no
leytb [OP]2 points11m ago
the other store was a few blocks away i really just didn’t want to go 😭😭😭 and it was like 45 minutes away from the shift when he called which was enough time to get there even from my house so i didn’t even have a valid excuse yk 😭😭😭
Zealousideal-Star4481 points11m ago
Dude your managers shit call your dm for help or to start an investigation. That’s a dick move man
Necessary_Low9393 points11m ago
U can reject it and not get paid.
leytb [OP]2 points11m ago
i tried rejecting it lmao
Zealousideal-Star4481 points11m ago
Do you know your dms number? If not try messaging a shift lead at your store, they usually have it and call to explain the situation, even if you are leaving in a month this manager is trying to pull this shit with you they might be trying it with other baristas who are not leaving. Leave a paper trail so if someone needs it they can find it
Necessary_Low9391 points11m ago
Honestly they can’t force u. My sm said that I can go there to work or go home without pay and I said I’ll go home
leytb [OP]1 points11m ago
he didn’t give me that option lmaooo
lickyourlefttoe1 points11m ago
What exactly did your manager say to you? Word for word. In Canada it is not required, only if you want to keep your hours.
leytb [OP]1 points11m ago
“i’m going to send u to [store manager’s name] store in [location]” “is it required, like if they’re understaffed i’d go but i’m already like a block away from [the name of our store] plus i don’t want to go if they don’t need anyone.” “yeah it’s required, it’s a new starbucks rule.”
can’t say that’s word for word but close enough..
lickyourlefttoe1 points11m ago
Weird. I’ll ask my manager next time I see her and let you know.
Zealousideal-Star4481 points11m ago
I’ve never heard of that, and I don’t think they can schedule you at other stores without asking you if it’s ok first, at least managers have always asked me before scheduling it.
overturned231 points11m ago
they can’t force you. some people walk or take a bus
aee781 points11m ago
45 minutes away! They need to pay your mileage or for an uber if you don't drive. I don't think they can make you go to another store, let alone one so far away!
Not_All_Their1 points11m ago
Not a “Partner”, but I think the answer might be SBWorkersUnited.
Aware-Vehicle19261 points11m ago
Not sure why they’re telling you they’re not paying you for the day unless to bribe you to go to the other location. That’s terrible. If your store closes early you’re supposed to still be paid for your labor… also older managers know how to alter the rules when they have younger employees who think things like that are normal—it’s not—you get to have a say on when & where you put your labor. And you are absolutely allowed to say no. If they threaten you with no pay report that to the district management…
5AV1OR1 points11m ago
I’ve always been told Starbucks is required to provide your shift at another store if you want to work it but it is up to you since your work location changed unexpectedly
leytb [OP]1 points11m ago
yeah me 2 lmao that’s what it was like b4
clouds1831 points11m ago
my store closed early bc we couldn’t find a ssv to cover the closing shift, and I lost hours bc of it, and my manager tried finding a shift that night for me but no one had any need for me, so I was just out of luck. but I got a morning shift the next day so it worked out. but no I don’t think you’re required, maybe call your district manager?
