Well…it finally happened: someone called corporate on me AND in front of me (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Affectionate_Fart
If I didn’t have a line of people ready to order I would’ve told her to put it on speaker because I wanted to hear too! Or start chanting “you’re calling uncle howie?! I wanna say hi, I wanna say hi!!”
Fucking cheap ass.
StormTheParade 185 points 11m ago
Careful with this one, when I had this happen to me, my manager wrote me up for it lmfaooo

Fuckin customer has corporate on speed dial, she was mid-complaint in the time it took for her to go from the speaker box to the window
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 113 points 11m ago
So I told my manager (she’s super cool) and reenforced that I was following policy.
luvduvbunny 81 points 11m ago
Thank god! I hate when corporate and managers bend over backwards to appease these adults behaving spoiled brats.

So when management reenforced the policy, please tell me the customer left
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 55 points 11m ago
My manager wasn’t in house today, I just texted her to let her know so she wasn’t surprised. But this woman was still on the phone talking to corporate/talking softly so she wasn’t embarrassed by her piss poor decision lmao but she left. Imma laugh if she comes back tomorrow to tell me what’s up……
Apprehensive_Pie5605 33 points 11m ago
I needa here the full story time on this one 👀
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 121 points 11m ago
Nothing super bad.
Girl wanted peach water, was told that I’d be ringing it as custom ice tea, sub water add peach juice. And then we had a whole conversation about how she “didn’t want tea”, I explained I can’t give her ingredients, she said “but I get it everywhere.” I stand my ground and say “sorry! It’ll be a custom ice tea…” and then she has corporate on the phone and says “Well I’ll have my strawberry water then…” and I say the same bit about ringing as a custom ice tea…she tells me I’m wrong and she she’s right and that I need to do it. I’ve had run ins at my old store and she didn’t like me there…because I refused to do a doppio, add ice venti cup, add cinnamon, add HER store bought protein drink, add whip and then caramel drizzle on top with extra cinnamon powder. Like ma’am, you do that on your own time, it’s against policy for my whip to touch your outside beverage. Then she would scream that Everyone else does it for her -.-
ArwenScamander 44 points 11m ago
Ok but this reminded me of an actually sweet customer when I worked at a licensed store at the airport. She was an airline employee (delta I think? I can't remember) and the first time she came in she asked if we could do something quite similar to what your Krazy Karen wanted. Difference is that when we told her we couldn't do that she offered to pay for a side cup of whipped cream (like a pup cup) with cinnamon dolce powder on top of it and had us put Carmel drizzle on the sides of the cup. She worked with us and we worked with her. She was polite. I've always said that depending how you treat your barista and what time of day you're ordering that's how much a barista is willing to work with you. Treat people with respect and they'll do the same for you. (Obviously not op. This is more aimed at customers)
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 35 points 11m ago
Oh absolutely, 100%. The only thing is I felt this woman was already asking too much of us when she “demanded” we do an iced venti doppio with Extra cinnamon powder, 3 pumps sfv, let her add her protein shake [from outside the store…] and then have up top that with WC and more cinnamon powder…….she was already pushing it. One time she tried to HAND me the drink and I flat out REFUSED….got snitty with me then too…
I’m all for hooking up customers at the right times. Birthday girl comes in and gets a brownie? Well damn we’re fixing it up for her. Having a bad day? Damn I gotcha… it just depends on how you treat your fellow person.
StormTheParade 66 points 11m ago
It was an hour to close, we had been slammed all day, so the only banana bread we had by that point was what we had just pulled out of the freezer for open.

I had been trained at my original store that we cannot sell frozen food, that it was a quality issue and it had to be thawed or cooked (depending, ofc). I had just transferred to that DT store, and didn't know just how vastly different policy could be from one store to the next.

I told the lady we were out of banana bread. I offered her another bread (pumpkin, maybe? I don't remember) and she insisted on the banana bread. She asked for a frozen one, I told her that I wasn't allowed to sell them and that we were all out for the day.

By the time she pulled up to the window, she was already on the phone with corporate to complain. By the time I clocked in for my closing shift the next day, she had emailed both the DM and the SM to complain. My SM promptly flipped out, told me "we never tell a customer no, and if you can't handle that, we need to find you a new job."
80sGraffiti 110 points 11m ago
Your SM is a moron, full disrespect.
StormTheParade 26 points 11m ago
I was only at that store for maybe 2 total months, I wish I could say that was the only story where she revealed how ill-fit she was for the role lmao

My time with Starbucks was 4 stores and a brief stint in a franchised location.... She was the worst SM I ever had, and that was the worst store I have ever set foot in. Disgusting store in every single way.
Necessary_Low939 9 points 11m ago
Wow wtf. Ur sm is messed up.
Mea-fae_Owl73 34 points 11m ago
Don’t worry about it. They will tell her the same thing that it is policy. Also you can call in an incident report on her for harassment to counter act her call. I do this when I know the Karen is going to try to spin the story to make it seem I wasn’t doing my job in making the moment right WHILE upholding the standard/policy.
Jasreha 23 points 11m ago
I had a customer call corporate on me. I was dumb, my shift egged me on, and I wrote my number on a pastry bag because the customer was cute.

He was the brother of the franchise owner of the Taco Bell across the lot, and apparently having marital troubles, and his wife found the bag. He came back, RIPPED MY MANAGER TO SHREDS about how unprofessional it was, said he was taking it “straight to Seattle”…

I got a write up and a “…Jas, 99% of people would take that as a compliment or just throw the bag out. You somehow got the 1% that didn’t. I normally don’t care but he went above me, above (DM)… I basically just have to write you up so corporate sees I did something.”

(And then she sent me home to go relax because I’d had a bad day anyway and just started bawling.)

…It didn’t work in his favor, I start at the roastery soon (edit: my dumb ass said ‘tomorrow’. Tomorrow is not the 17th. I am dumb). 🤷🏼‍♀️
Lightheaded_gamer 8 points 11m ago
NGL,

His wife probably gave him hell so he took it out on your manager. It does not matter if you are a normal person or related to Ronald mcdondalds, legit could have thrown out the paper and forgot about it and just don't go back to that starbucks.

Besides that, don't let this discourage you in trying to give hints in the future just cuz of this guy. For next time I'd say just do it off of work lol.
Jasreha 5 points 11m ago
That’s exactly the impression I got - my manager put a LOT of emphasis on “you don’t know if they’re already having problems”. She honestly seemed more annoyed about the situation escalating than she did at me, which was reassuring, lol.
Wonderful-Put-5972 20 points 11m ago
We have a regular who gas corporate on speed dial and it's just laughable. What world makes it ok for people to AWFUL and whine coz it wasn't welcomed and expect to be rewarded foe their awfulness??
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 17 points 11m ago
I love that she was like “What’s corporates number?” And I said “Probably 1-800-Starbucks…” and then proceeded to HOLD UP my line…I was like “ma’am, I have customers…move along.”
ezranilla 7 points 11m ago
if you have someone who won't move along are you allowed to say, "I can help whoever is next" to move things along?
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 10 points 11m ago
Eh. You have to watch how you say it because third space BS. honestly, since I was shift, I would’ve assigned on the other till and taken customers while she played the ass
ezranilla 1 points 11m ago
makes sense. ty for explaining.

(I was cross training at Tarbucks when I left target, so ive never *really* been a barista)
Gameb0i6 7 points 11m ago
I used to have this guy call corporate on me every week trying to get me fired cuz he said I was hitting on him and his bf. This went on for almost two years. Good thing my DM and Manager were I. My side and they knew it was all bullshit.
jams1015 4 points 11m ago
Translation: His boyfriend probably checked you out or something once upon a time and he caught it. Every time he sees you, insecurity takes over and he has to soothe his ego by saying YOU are obviously coming on to HIS man... and him, too, because the narcissistic ego just can't.

Sucks to suck, at least you know you cute enough to rile this guy up!
Gameb0i6 1 points 11m ago
The thing is. It was all a lie. My bff and him broke up and was just targeting us out of pity. He never even came into my store. He’s pathetic honestly.
jams1015 2 points 11m ago
Gross! I'm sorry he was harassing you and I'm so glad your manager had your back. Your BFF was smart to walk away from that guy.
Gameb0i6 1 points 11m ago
Yeah. It’s a long story. Won’t get into it. But in the end we just laugh at how pathetic his ex is to do this shit.
mewwissa 4 points 11m ago
Starbucks just needs to make specific stores for these asswipe customers where no policies or food safety exists. Just let the customers do whatever they want, order peach waters, have the barista use their breastmilk in their coffee, take a shit on the floor. Then at the end of the week the DM can show up and determine how much of their paycheck they’ll have to use to make up for lost profits.
Minute-General-2090 3 points 11m ago
ha, had some tell me I was to be reported to corporate because I wouldn't sell the pink Tumblr cups (they weren't even released and someone stole one from us and posted it to FB) after I repeatedly told every woman who was demanding I pull those cups out that they were not for sale until next week, I cannot sell them.... and the woman who posted that fb page stole our cup from our cart.

three people told me I was being reported to corporate and demanded I give my name. I was glad to because they would tell them the same! it wasn't for sale until next week!
Lightheaded_gamer 3 points 11m ago
When I used to work for starbucks , everytime a Karen asked for my name to report to corporate I would make eye contact with them gladly saying my name; because I know I am right with policy (and obviously once they leave I let my shift and sm know of the situation).

9 times out of 10 either they don't come back or when they do they cut their bs.
Necessary_Low939 3 points 11m ago
Why don’t she just go back to those stores then?!
eevylynn 2 points 11m ago
I had corporate called on me because I was "rude" and "had a bad attitude" when in all actuality the customer was already in a bad mood when she pulled up to the drive thru window at such an angle that I'm shocked she didn't wreck into the building. She immediately was on the defensive and did all the usual things: aggressively insisted she knew what buttons I needed to press in order for her to get her stars, she "comes here all the time" (never saw her before in my life), berated me for speaking "negatively towards" her, and then finished it by saying "every other Starbucks barista gets along with me great. The only one that has a problem is YOU."

I just fixed the customer service smile and responded with, "I'm sorry you feel that way. Have a great day."

My DTO was so pissed on my behalf because she heard the whole tirad, especially since the new store manager kept sucking up to that customer after that (because of course that's when she decided to actually be a regular). I'm so glad I left when I did.
frappeyourmom 5 points 11m ago
I especially loved the people who went “I COME HERE ALL THE TIME AND THEY DO THIS FOR ME” when I was DTO/DTW during morning peak, afternoon peak, or church rush 5 days a week. I usually got cheaky and politely said “I’m on this window 5 days a week and pretty good with names and don’t remember you, but I’m happy to remember your order that’s within my power to ring it up so I don’t lose my job!” in the perkiest tone possible.

Usually shut those chucklefucks up, but a couple sometimes complained to the shift. Never once heard from corporate.

There's no number for "corporate"
Affectionate_Fart [OP] 41 points 11m ago
Yes there is…there’s a customer service line…
fuwaldah -35 points 11m ago
Right. That goes to some operator making minimum wage who sends out a $5 gift card.
Zaccimi 10 points 11m ago
Soo….. corporate? Just because they’re not on the exec board doesn’t mean that they’re not corporate Starbucks.
fuwaldah -4 points 11m ago
No. Some operator somewhere. Nobody cares.
frappeyourmom 2 points 11m ago
Also, the people on the corporate line are making way more than minimum wage and also are able to work from home, so still better working conditions than the average barista.
