To become a barista trainer(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Feeling_Still299
How would I become a barista trainer? I have been working here for under a month and I was talking to my dm about it and she said to come to her when I feel like I would like to. That I would need to know most things when it comes to the store and where I’d like to practice. I think I forgot some more of the stuff she said but I want to know how to really become a great barista trainer? Like anything I need to know beforehand or anything that would make me an amazing trainer?

Not to be mean or anything, but a month typically isn’t enough time to be proficient at every role while having all the standards and procedures up to date. It takes two weeks to train (I think three weeks now with the new training they do) so you’re probably still getting used to everything in the store tbh. Unless you’re at a store with immense turnover, I can’t really foresee how you’d have enough knowledge to properly train someone and answer every single question they come up with.
If you still want to be a barista trainer, ask your SM to assign the proper modules to you. Then go over drink recipes, how to make every single backup, CS cycle, everything that a new barista would need to know at your store and make sure you can explain everything in simple terms.

Thank you that makes sense. I have worked for my school that has has a place that served Starbucks drinks but wasn’t a licensed Starbucks similar to like Barnes and nobles. Things are a little differently and I wanted to know what I needed to before I really look into becoming a trainer at the least I’d wait for 3 months before even attempting I was just curious as to what I would need to even become a barista trainer. I’m just very interested and I like to look at things and have goals to aim for is all.

Personally I think the two biggest parts of being a trainer is having the ability to make your trainees feel welcome and comfortable in the store and secondly to be able to coach different personalities effectively. Some trainees want to know every mistake, some don’t like hearing any (even though they will have to), some prefer learning by doing, seeing, hearing, or reading. I would definitely recommend being there about 6 months before becoming a trainer but that’s just my broad personal opinion.

Girl nobody wants to get trained by someone who hasn’t even been there a month

Maybe not you but some new partners learn faster and have everything on point.

Idc how confident you are I’m not abt to be trained by someone who’s been there a month

Just cause you learned slow doesn’t mean other people do 😭😭

I literally was trained in 2 days and they were genuinely impressed by my progress but ok.

I was told I needed to be at least working as a barista for 5 months. I became a trainer, I was worried I may come off as a hard-ass or too serious but I trained two baristas and out of everyone, my SM said both those braistas said I was the best because I was compassionate and went over every detail with them. Answered their questions right and if they were unsure or made a mistake, I guided them throughly and explained everything clear and easy to them.

I was curious as I know someone who became a shift supervisor after 4-6 months of working there so I wasn’t sure if it was based alone on focusing on just that or such.

maybe SM has their own set rules? Im currently being trained to being lead and manager training as my store is losing our baristas (nothing with the pay or our environment, just their personal life is having them to quit) and I been there for 8-9 months.
but a few months ago, my SM said it was policy that I be at my 5 month mark in order to be a trainer. (this was before she found out she was going to have to quit)
