Lost my benefits right before I’m about to have surgery. (self.starbucksbaristas)

Long story short, my old store was cutting my hours and I fell just a bit short to be eligible for my benefits. I’m trans and about to have surgery in a few months, and I’m on meds I need my insurance for. Is there anything I can do about this? My sm hasn’t been very helpful and said she “knows nothing about it”.

No. They’re very strict if you’re under the amount of hours needed during the audit (they lowered it a good amount as well). You could always give PCC a call but doubt they’ll be able to help you.

I believe after failing the audit, you lose benefits on October 1st. I hope your surgery is scheduled before then 😞

Your store manager cannot do anything at all and she honestly probably doesn’t know anything about it beyond you didn’t meet hours and that’s it. It isn’t her fault in the sense she can’t give benefits to you in spite of it or anything.
As for T, you can get it pretty cheap with GoodRx and hopefully Mark Cuban’s pharmacy will add it soon because that is where it would be super cheap.
Goodluck! Hopefully your surgery is soon, also keep in mind even if you can do your surgery you will have a post op etc that might fall out of the window depending on the dates.

There may be a one time exception you can use. Call the pcc exactly what happened. Tell them your situation (mine is similar I’m trans I 100% need my health benefits it’s pretty life critical at this point). This happened to me last period. They immediately opened a case worked with my dm to back date some sick time for two days I missed due to COVID last period and got my benefits reinstated and back dated.

How far are you behind and how many sick/vacation hours do you have? Ive heard of someone sm being nice and trying to back pay with those to get enough hours if your only a little short

Came here to say this - if you have vacation hour/sick time accrued and that will bring you up to eligibility absolutely do this.
