so have any other partners gone stress blind at work during their shift 🥲 (self.starbucksbaristas)

i work at a location that is near a high school as well as a middle school and during the school year/when it gets close to the start of the school year we are constantly so busy. this summer has been pretty tame and mild but this week we were so incredibly slammed every single day. today i was on reg and support and it started to get busier and busier and busier. no one had time to think about anything we were all just trying to move as fast as we could. i was trying to get through as many people on the register as fast as i could so that i could help restock before more people would come but people just kept coming and coming and coming. there was basically no downtime so it was hard to keep everything stocked. i deal with ptsd as well as severe anxiety and it got to the point where there was so much going on and i was so overwhelmed that i started to go stress blind. my vision was spotting i could hardly read the register or focus on anyone around me. i ended up burning myself while pouring someone's drip coffee. i felt like i was going to pass out but i just made myself try to push through it bc i didn't have time to step away for even a second. honestly just another day at sbux 🫠🫠

edit: i forgot to mention that for the first time since i started at my location, there has been a significant amount of drama between two of my fellow partners bc they won't stop talking shit about each other and they're bringing a lot of tension into the store which also was adding to everyone's stress today.

i think i just call this my “tunnel vision” because i literally can’t see anything but what’s in front of me, it’s concerning bc sometimes i get stressed about work outside of work and i have tunnel vision again , it’s like permanent trauma

ive had this happen to me before but never at work so it made me like 10x more overwhelmed than i already was. sbux is going to need to pay for intensive therapy for our barista trauma

this is me like, every shift. it’s so draining in every possible way. especially when your shift is standing there “yOu nEeD tO mOvE fAsTeR” bestie if i move any faster i’m going to start hyperventilating and then what.

You're doing amazing and if no one told you that, then shame on them. You've got this!

I can't say that I've dealt with something like this because I work at a Tarbucks, but I know what you're talking about. We just have a different kind of crazy.

i really appreciate that, thank u! ive been into a few tarbucks in my area and i feel for u guys. i work at a corporate store so whenever i go into target and i see only one or two people on the floor i literally don't have any idea how u guys do it. seriously props to u

It's just multitasking to the extreme. I lowkey want to go to a corporate store since I wouldn't have to do all the positions, or even three of them, at once.

When we get slammed, my crew and I start singing and dancing. So it's drinks and a show lol

omg that’s a thing? since i’ve changed stores i’ve had spotting in my vision too, i also have ptsd that makes so much sense

Diagnosed with PTSD and other stuff, and have dissosiative features in multiple of those. This sounds like getting overstimulated and dissociating at work. I do it somewhat often. If therapy and or psychiatrist is a viable option, I highly recommend talking about it to professionals.

Dehydration will do that too
