my store is starting curbside next week. & now we have to stand outside in drive thru (like chickfila) & take orders to “improve customer connection☺️”. idk how i feel about it…

standing outside for hours in the heat or cold weather is a no from me.. i’ve heard horror stories of chick fil a curbside employees almost passing out

We have curbside at my store, and I actually love it! It’s a lot of fun to go outside and take orders. Luckily my SSVs are understanding when it’s too hot/cold and won’t put anyone out there who is uncomfortable.
It really clearly helps out otw times and also I think it’s more fun to chat with customers and take their orders when I have to option to just move to the next car.

Considering how often I almost get run over while taking out the trash, that’s a no from me babe

This is my big concern and we have so many people honking/starting arguments in our drive thru. Like having people get out of their cars and throw stuff at people behind them for cutting them off/not backing out if we don’t have what they want. People are RIDICULOUS. Also, I live in AZ so I won’t be doing this until at least Oct.

As someone who lives in Texas summer, absolutely fucking not 🥰

The one and only time i was told to go do curbside i took all of one order. It took 10 entire minutes, the lady wouldn’t stop talking abt some drama with her daughter, had no idea what she wanted whatsoever, got sidetracked multiple times, wouldn’t pull up to close the gap in the line. Like five cars pulled past her bc she was the lenght of the entire store away from the speaker box/ the car in front of her.

After that I absolutely refused to do curbside

It does speed things up tho. When people aren’t ridiculous.

i used to work at chick fil a and hated it there for this exact reason!! i swore i would never do it again after i left but then my starbucks rolled it out last year and it sucked. all of the partners were miserable + the shifts hated having to send us out but my manager insisted. i live in a state thats ridiculously hot + my stores parking lot is dangerous so now i just claim its unsafe so they cant make me do it per company policy

I will say, customers order less ridiculously long drinks when they’re ordering with a person rather a voice from a box

my old store did it. we only had it for 3 days before the store closed for 5 months (lol). my current store is supposed to roll it out…..i don’t know when i but i hope it won’t be anytime soon. i get overheated easily, and cold easily. there’s absolutely no way i’d be able to handle standing out in the hot ass sun just to come in and immediately have to haul ass on the floor. i’d be sent home with heat exhaustion every day

but also…if they are going to do this, then stores should be required to supply sunscreen. i’m not risking skin cancer for some dumb ‘coffee shop’ and i don’t have the money to keep it stocked up.

As someone who used to work at Chick-Fil-A and was strictly sent outside to do it my entire shift with no break, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I honestly always hated that “oh it makes the drive thru so much quicker and easier” like sure maybe, but I’m still in shock it’s not seen as a safety issue. I almost got hit by a car daily because people never look where the hell they’re going. Or customers would have road rage and get out of their car to start fighting the other customers. Then there is the circumstances with weather and heat, what was supposed to happen is that we would have to be switched out and checked on at a certain temperature (never happened since the people inside were too busy) and if there was signs of storms we were supposed to be brought inside (which also rarely if ever happened).

So my advice to you would be to try to make sure you have some ground rules set up at your store if you’re going to do this like having a higher up out there to make sure it all runs smoothly, and switch people out occasionally, make sure to check in every so often for water and bathroom breaks and stick to it, don’t just let it float on by.

I can tell you it's not fun but it does make peak fly!
Apopheniacal 2 points 11m ago
How does it work? I am so confused by the concept because it feels like at my store, we need more baristas to make DT times faster, not DTO’s.
Key-Ferret4077 3 points 11m ago
So essentially it does make times better. Bc the person outside on handheld will help keep the time at the window minimized by stalling, while the partners inside are making the drinks and food so that by the time the customer gets to the window you can basically hand out the stuff and go while still getting the good customer connection scores. You don't need more baristas you just need someone who is good at keeping conversations to be on dto/HH.
Apopheniacal 3 points 11m ago
That makes a lot of sense, though I have to agree, doesn't sound fun. Especially in this heat );

Thanks!
