I’m big stressed (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by livlaughbaja
i’ve been a partner since april; i was hired for the summer at my store, with my manager knowing that i’m a university student and would need to transfer to a store closer to my school when classes in the fall restarted. while this job definitely has its moments, i love all my coworkers and for my area the pay is better than i’d get elsewhere. my manager helped me find a store that i can transfer too, and now i have a few weeks left at my current store, and then ill start at my new store a few weeks later. for context, i live across town from my school and new store. the manager of that store was trained to be a manager at my store so i already know them well.
the store i’m transferring to is very high volume, always super busy (my current store is much much much slower, usually dead after the morning rush). i am super nervous moreso for the social aspect of the job, as when i have picked up shifts at other stores the partners have always been rude to me, and i’m really scared that will be the case there. i’m also concerned because of the new policy stating that we need to work 12 hours a week minimum, as right now i have open availability and i don’t even get scheduled that some weeks.
i am taking 20 credit hours this semester and am working as an undergraduate teaching assistant at my school. i wanted to keep my job at starbs and work there weekends so i’d have a job to keep over breaks and stuff (my current manager says that when i’m home from school for breaks i can just work at my current store) but im so scared of being burned out.
have any other student baristas been through anything like this? what was your transfer experience like? i really don’t want to quit but im scared for how much stress ill be under if i don’t.

What policy about working 12 hours minimum?

for new partners it started in august (i think) and existing partners it starts in october. new policy is partners have to work 12 hours minimum, and are required to have 150% availability of their desired availability. so if you only want 12 hours, you have to be available for 18 hours.
