Charging for decaf frappuchino(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Braden1215
I had a customer come In today and ask for a decaf Caramel ribbon crunch (but wanted decaf coffee in it and not crème based) so I explained that I would have to charge for decaf espresso and she got mad at me and said that she’s never had to pay for it before and nobody else charges for that. I explained that we are supposed to charge for it because it’s an extra ingredient but then I second guessed myself. I ended up just not charging her for it cause I didn’t want to deal with it. Should I be charging for decaf frappuchino if they don’t just want it creme based?

No it’s free just hit the “decaf” button. We substitute decaf espresso shots (1/2/3) for the frapp roast. I always ask people to clarify if they want it to taste like coffee (I ring it like this) or not at all (I just ring a crmf)

Is that a new policy? That absolutely never came up in training.

It actually didn’t for me either. When I was trained I think I was told it’s 1 shot regardless of size lol. But, evidentially as I have discovered, this is actually in the blended beverage recipe standards
Barista basics just got updated recently, so hopefully it’s been added to the cold beverage module

Our register doesn’t have a decaf button

How would you ring in a decaf latte? Does each decaf drink have its own button? Decaf latte, decaf americano, etc?

No there’s a button called “shot options” but that’s for espresso, the only drink that has its own decaf option is pike, I guess I have never tried to hit the decaf button before on the frap but I’ll try it next time I work and let you know

Hit the Frappuccino button and then the decaf button

It sounds like you work in a licensed store. You'll have to ask your manager.

If you’re in the US and using the standard US sbux register, you simply mark the frap as decaf and the frap roast is replaced with decaf shots, 1/2/3 for tall/grande/venti. No extra charge. This is in the beverage resource manual. If you’re in another country then idk maybe there’s another standard but I can say for sure that you should not be charging extra for this in the US.

Assuming you work for a licensed store, it would be rung up as a regular CRCF but you would sub out the frap roast for the amount of decaf shots the recipe calls for, rather than ringing it up as a creme based frap and charging for the shot(s).
