Why do customers just wait by the counter at Starbucks like I won’t make your drink faster… (self.starbucksbaristas)

I hate it. I had customer B standing at the counter while I was making customer A’s drink. Customer A ordered first and customer B knew that. When I called customer A’s name, customer B thought it was theirs despite the name being completely different, AND the drink being different. This has happened so many times before and I just got sick of being nice about it so I said “NO, this is A’s drink. Waiting might be more comfortable for you if you sat down. Your drink will be out shortly.” Customer A couldn’t even get to the drink easily because customer B was in the way. So annoying.

I’m probably overthinking this but I hate that the kitchen faces the customers and the cold bar fridge faces away so my back is turned to them. I feel so awkward reaching down for things while a group of people are staring right at me lmfao

Right! I feel so pressured having them stare me down 🥲

Yess lol not to mention that any screw up, they're staring and its annoying and embarrassing lol i wish the layout was different too! If i puncture the almond milk seal and shut the flap to shake the carton, sometimes some almondmilk splashes into my eye or on my face or i may accidentally knock something over or fumble with a cup lol theyre staring at all of that. I wish the layout was slightly different so that they shouldnt stand and watch my literal every move. Cuz they stand at the hand off but like right on the side which is exactly where the mobile pick up area is so theyre blocking those people when theyre standing there cuz theres a small thin space between the counter and the wall behind them where the mobile pick up corner is so if someone is standing right in front of the mobile pick up spot, then literally nobody else can get to it unless they move away from there and let that person thru but people still dont care lol

I’m so tired of customers staring at me while I’m on hot bar and asking me where their food is. 😐

They do it on purpose 😩
ironic_nic 3 points 11m ago

I told a lady last week, we were still making the drinks for the 5 people she stood behind in line and she needed to back up off the counter cause there were 3 people behind her that would like to get their drinks. And I'm really loud so she'll absolutely hear me call her name when her drink is done.

They be mad dogging me too like 😐

I know some of my customers do it because they’re allergic to dairy and want to make sure I use the right milk. Some customers are entertained in general. But the most obnoxious are the ones who criticize every move and glare straight at you.

Definitely don’t like when i get “heated stares”. I usually talk to them like they’re 5 at that point. However…. Not trying to be this partner… but that is our job to “connect” and “get to know the customer”. So i appreciate when people stand at the hand off so i can connect. I don’t like when people are way like at the front door and I’m trying to call their drink and it’s sitting their because they can’t hear me and other customers thinking it’s theirs. BUT i know what you mean in this situation. They’re already mad coming in, don’t want to wait one minute for their order, and no appreciation for the sweat dripping down our foreheads.

I sometimes start singing loudly and then make eye contact with them to make them feel awkward 😈 works every time

I actually just like to watch the drinks being made honestly! I think at our local store they know that’s what I’m doing because I’m never impatient about it but that could very well be the reason.

It’s the people who just stare you down and give you attitude that bothers me
SavannaHeat 7 points 11m ago
Right. Or the people who stand at the counter with their hands literally on the counter, with the clear look of impatience on their faces. The “I have to leave for work soon.” people. Major eye roll.

Like don’t order a drink if you’re in a rush
It_is_Katy 2 points 11m ago
same lmao, I was a big Starbucks fan before I became a barista and I honestly just liked to "peek behind the curtain," so to speak. More than impatient, I was just really excited for my drink. I didn't get a chance to get it more than a couple times a month, so it felt like a treat.
