Manager not respecting 2 week notice(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by No-Village3547
I put in my 2 week notice on the 31st for my last day being the 13th. I just found that my manager has scheduled me past the 13th and when I told them they said i needed to find coverage for those shifts. Very tempted to just leave and not find coverage.
BeardiesRule112359 points11m ago
No, you don’t need to find coverage, you have proof you put in for your last day to be the 13th. Fuck yo manager!
HappyMelonGirl199 points11m ago
Uh, don't be tempted to not do it, just *don't do it*. That is a salary level problem. Report that shit to PR and print out the policy to hand to them. OR BETTER YET because I'm feeling chaotic, use your sick time to cover the additional days if you have it since they won't pay it out lmfao
No-Village3547 [OP]78 points11m ago
Considering I have 70 hours i could just use the last 2 weeks and be fine lol
idkcassie29 points11m ago
write in your vacation* time to use it before you leave, otherwise I’m not sure if they always pay it out. *accidentally said sick time
HappyMelonGirl15 points11m ago
They won't even if you write it in. Policy punishes you for *not* being ill.
idkcassie9 points11m ago
🤷🏻♀️ guess it depends on your sm. also i meant vacation* hours. vacation hours can be used at any time, at least my sm let me write mine in during my last two weeks so that i got them paid. but i think you’re right about sick time, it’s not paid out. my bad.
thegingerhannah5 points11m ago
I wrote my vacation time in the book to be added to my last week and my SM ignored it and I had to wait a month for him to finally do my termination paperwork for it to be paid out on it's own check.
HappyMelonGirl2 points11m ago
Dude yeah I am so sick of this type of behavior that's awful. :( I'm so sorry. Make sure you accepted your stocks too
andersonm4990 points11m ago
If they don’t pay you out right after you quit you get compensation for the additional time. If it took a month you should have gotten paid for that
holldizzle0244 points11m ago
this is probably a dumb question, how do you know how much sick time you have?
HappyMelonGirl3 points11m ago
Mypartnerinfo :)
ElijahLordoftheWoods2 points11m ago
It’s also on your paystubs!
fuwaldah8 points11m ago
That's not how sick time works unfortunately
HappyMelonGirl9 points11m ago
From what I've been told, it's exactly how it works. Your sick hours are protected, since they have no way to prove you aren't sick *mentally* or *physically*. They're protected for a reason at least I'm pretty sure. My boss told me that he's not even allowed to write someone up officially for it until they're out of sick time unless they break absence policy or something. The most they can do to my knowledge is ask for proof or something and honestly my lyra appointed therapist would HAPPILY write me an excuse note 🥸 if you are still employed, you still have the right to call out if you are ill.
fuwaldah-14 points11m ago
You can't use sick time to just skip scheduled shifts. That's not how it works, unfortunately.
HappyMelonGirl6 points11m ago
Again, there is no way to prove you are not ill. You do not lose the basic human right to become ill just because your boss said so lmao
HappyMelonGirl3 points11m ago
Also, not to sound accusatory but your profile is weird and sketchy. Basically all of your interactions look like this comment section. Mostly you being cynical/cold towards other baristas who are *complaining about their managers*. I've done some research and just like I thought, that is exactly how sick time works. They are not *allowed* to discriminate against mental illness. Especially if you have a diagnosis. If you've been using lyra, you have a *very* good case against the manager.
You forget that in this very same post, they mention that they have gently reminded the manager 3 seperate times now leading them to make this post in the first place. The weird thing to me that this is *obviously* an attempt at a singled out petty punishment which is against starbucks managerial policy. If you are *SO* for the policy, why aren't you directing OP to ethics and compliance? It's very suspicious to see someone defend the manager so fiercely in a situation that is so obviously an ethics issue to the point of telling them they aren't *allowed to be sick*.
Are you a manager? I'm willing to bet 100$ you're a manager. Which is funny, because that would mean you 100% *know* this is an ethics issue if you are but you weirdly left that out of your advice.
ifonlyuflew43 points11m ago
Did you do a written two weeks or anything documented stating the 13th? Cause if so I'd say you're in the clear to be done on the 13th. If not, well.. he could put you as a "non-rehire" but that's also BS and you shouldnt have to find coverage at ALL. Just have ur last day be on the 13th and be done. You've done everything right by giving two weeks in the first place.
No-Village3547 [OP]31 points11m ago
Yeah i gave a note and texted them a pic of the same thing with the expected termination date.
floofxs231 points11m ago
Just tell them your last day is the 13th and they need to find coverage for shifts after because you will no longer be working there. If you gave notice in writing should be no problem. If not possibly she could be spiteful in the future but it’s not really your problem anyway.
HappyJos29 points11m ago
Managers always get petty when you put in Two weeks for w/e reasons
No-Village3547 [OP]14 points11m ago
Which sucks because I've been a great employee. I can count on one hand the number of times I called out sick.
HappyJos7 points11m ago
Starbucks for you 😕
fuwaldah-16 points11m ago
It's not
fuwaldah-15 points11m ago
Most absolutely do not.
ValueAffectionate28710 points11m ago
I watched our shitty ASM and our fill-in manager (one of which who’s catching a harassment case) LAUGH at my favourite SSV when he handed in his two weeks. He didn’t even want to come in for the rest of his shifts because he felt so unwanted.
jesthere28 points11m ago
What can they do about it, fire you?
No-Village3547 [OP]5 points11m ago
True lol
HamiltonPolka27 points11m ago
Speaking as a Manager… fuck your manager. You put in two weeks a *courtesy.* They can kick rocks
Kilometer_Davis17 points11m ago
Isn’t that their job to find coverage?
fuwaldah5 points11m ago
Yes
Kilometer_Davis13 points11m ago
Send em to hell! I got stuck in Lima, Peru last year (I’m from the Midwest) and my dumbass GM said “find coverage” as if I could find coverage from South America with fucking 2 bars of 3G. I left a message to the DM that I was stuck and had to emergency evac the center for safety and I couldn’t do my GM’s job from a continent away with worse reception than George Washington on a telegram.
Big-Working916411 points11m ago
Hahahaha 🤣🤣🤣 nah, your manager gotta find coverage. You don't work there after the date you have. 2 weeks notice is a courtesy.
BlackberryOpposite317 points11m ago
Call out sick those days and use up your sick time. If you’re sick the manger has to find coverage.
No-Village3547 [OP]6 points11m ago
Wait really? All my shifts and such always make the sick person try to find coverage
BlackberryOpposite3115 points11m ago
No the rule is that if you call out sick you are not in charge of finding coverage. If you can’t come in for other reasons though you do need to find your own coverage.
SnooWoofers74562 points11m ago
I was not allowed to use my sick time during my last two weeks :/ idk if it’s changed since then
fuwaldah-2 points11m ago
No. Just tell the manager ahead of time you will no longer be with the company.
BlackberryOpposite315 points11m ago
They literally did that and the manager scheduled them anyways.
fuwaldah0 points11m ago
Right. I'm suggesting they reiterate that and stop worrying about it.
BlackberryOpposite312 points11m ago
They did reiterate it and the manager said they had to find coverage. Did you read the post?
verdeuce6 points11m ago
Sm here, let your dm know. Any time I get a two week notice I always check the dates and see if there are shifts I need to get covered. It’s common sense but unfortunately they don’t really go over common sense in training. And bitter SMs like to make departing partners feel like ass. I’m sorry this is happening and you absolutely don’t have to cover your last shifts if you gave a two weeks notice
Acceptable_Rate_27295 points11m ago
You gave your notice. Your last day is the 13th. That's on the manager for not planning past that! It's not your problem to find coverage for their mistake
robetyarg5 points11m ago
Sucks for them. That’s above your pay grade. Ask for a consultation fee if they contact you after your last day.
Necessary_Low9395 points11m ago
Ignore that bitch
AcadiaFresh5634 points11m ago
Lmao same thing with me: I gave my manager more than a two week notice at the end of the month (for june) I told him my last day would be June 30th. I got scheduled for July 2. I got the shift covered, but with all the sick time I had, I should have called out instead of getting coverage.
Gay_banger_queen3 points11m ago
Absolutely F that but also my last day is on the 14th so yay uh for almost being last day twins
taylortherod3 points11m ago
Lmao what are they gonna do if you don’t find coverage, fire you?
Responsible_Snow71093 points11m ago
Why should u need to find coverage because of ur managers error of scheduling u past ur 2 week notice? Lmao cant believe she even has the nerves to say that lol wtf. Did what happened after? Like she cant tell u to find coverage when its on record that ur last day is the 13th? How can u find coverage when ur no longer guna be an employee past ur 2 weeks? What a nutcase, she is a moron if she tries to do something about it. She would not be able to. But like what was the end of that conversation? Like did she realize that she was the one to schedule u in error after ur 2 week end date?
No-Village3547 [OP]4 points11m ago
Yeah I texted them once i realized (they havent been in store since the incident yet) and they told me that Ive been scheduled and its been posted so they can't make major changes. They can add a half hour here and 45 minutes there but no big scheduling changes
Responsible_Snow71093 points11m ago
What the hell but thats not ur fault! Ur manager is responsible for that because u gave ur freakin 2 week notice with enough time and the proper way so anything she puts u on after that is her error and her responsibility!
ElijahLordoftheWoods1 points11m ago
They most definitely can make changes once it’s been posted, they just don’t want to. Write ALL your vacation hours in the book before the 13th. Document everything, if you live in a one party consent state, make an audio recording anytime the manager speaks to you going forward. Don’t let your SM kick you on the way out. You gave notice and it’s only a curtesy to do so anyway.
noahaiken2 points11m ago
Call in sick and use sick time for those shifts lol
Thisisntreal1152 points11m ago
I just put in my 2 week. Starbucks has become such a trash company to work for.
I think my boss is getting most my shifts covered because I swear I’m a liability now.
Our toxic consumer base - prediabetic tik tok loving sheeple that they are- has gotten despicable.
I miss the days where you got your ass kicked for talking to someone like people think they can talk to baristas these days.
Anyways fuck em. You don’t need this reference. Trust Me when I say NO ONE worth working for is going to be impressed by a good reference from Starbucks
SpongerBZ1 points7m ago
I'm reading in disbelief, because this happened to me at a Starbucks in Socal, in the year 1999.
I had just graduated college and had a trip planned to Peru (Amazing someone else here mentioned being in Lima). With 3 weeks before the trip I picked up a barista job at Starbucks, knowing that I would soon quit without notice. I felt bad about this going in because I always had always given 2 weeks previously. When I told the supervisor that I was quitting on the spot, she tried to get me to find coverage event though I had already quit. I was like "Uh..OK" and I didn't do chit. I just thought this was an anomaly, not so wide spread. I did feel bad for what I did, but not so bad that I was going to make a bunch of phone calls to beg for coverage.

Literally leave! You did your part by putting in a two week notice that’s all you can do
marissaalexis2 points11m ago
Hold on what do we get paid out for when we quit? Vacation or sick time or neither?
Allopathological1 points11m ago
You guys know you can just not show up right? Like you don’t even need to put in two weeks. You can just not come back ever again.
Careless_Ad_34901 points11m ago
In all honesty if you feel like doing a favor I guess you could cover the shift but also if you can’t don’t want to it’s out of your way in any sort of way it’s not your problem.

Enkeria921 points11m ago
Fuck your manager! Starbucks is an at-will company. I’d not even bother coming in. I didn’t finish my two weeks because of how bad my manager was.
Professor_Sqi1 points11m ago
Lmao provided you gave notice and have proof that's literally not your problem. Could also just be placeholder shifts for someone new or reminder for cover.
chronicarrythmia1 points11m ago
Yeah fuck that shit. Their problem after the 13th ✌️
aee781 points11m ago
how many days past? Was it just the 14th? At my store, that schedule would have posted for that day, well before a 2 week notice.
fuwaldah1 points11m ago
I think you should let your manager know you gave notice and will not be working those shifts.
