Partner to customer ratio? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Electrical-Age-1348
Does anybody know how many people should be scheduled to be on the floor depending on the amount of customers we get? I think my manager told me for every 8 customers in an hour we should have a person on the floor, however she just lies to me about things sometimes so I’m trying to get another opinion/answer lol

My manager said for every 10 customers an hour, we should have a partner on the floor

I don’t know if this is specific policy or not, but I feel like it might be a bit much, depending on the store. In our cafe we regularly have ~60 half hour peaks for an hour or two, and we get by with 5 or 6 baristas. Though 7.5 would make it a cakewalk so, if your SM is following that metric sounds like your floor must run swimmingly during peak :)

I’m actually a closer we get roughly 20-30 per half hour and I only have three people on the floor (counting me) while I’m trying to do the pastry pull so I just wanted some facts before I go to my manager about it

We use a 3 person play most days through the PM shift. We’re pretty similar numbers-wise as your store. It definitely is much easier when there’s a short shift scheduled to help run breaks/do the pull/counts....

Wish I had some actual advice as far as what metric is used to schedule labor though...

So the metric they use is like this: every drink has a hidden "labor" number (let's call it x) that is assigned depending on how difficult, or labor intensive, it is. And a drink's x value goes up when you ring in different modifiers. So drinks like water have a low x value while drinks like Frappucinos have a high one. And modifiers such as "steamed" or even hitting the "add ice" button for water will increase the x value. This is why it is so important to ring things up correctly and to always make sure you check to see if there is a button before just putting it in an ask me (i.e. there is a "pour on top" button that a lot of people don't know about). At least that is how it was explained to me

Yeah we’ve just had some troubles with our manger not scheduling correctly and one girl ‘transferred’ (long story as apparently she’s trying to sue) and I was told she was only scheduled as an extra however when she doesn’t show my ASM says we’re short staffed. I just am not sure what’s considered short staffed or not here lol thank you though
