I'm dreading waking up at 3 am after just getting used to being a new opener with our old hours. Is anyone else anxious about this new change? I'm an insomniac and will probably find it easier to just stay awake instead of sleeping for an hour or two.

My DM has told our SM that we should try opening earlier because our sales call for it. Mind you, I’m literally the only person at my store that works every day part regularly, so I know for a fact (anecdotally and statistically) that this is false. I took my store’s average sales for its first hour for that week and for the last hour and, what’d’ya know, my store makes over 30% more in sales during our last hour than our first hour. I showed my SM my math and…well…that ended that real quick.

& im over here upset cause my stores opening hours changed for the second time this year 🥲 we started out the year opening at 4am then to 4:30am and now 5am, my manager keeps asking me to opening up my availability a bit more but i refuse 🙅♀️

Set your boundaries and stick with them. <3

I’m an opener with insomnia too… I’m dreading it 😭 it’s only a 30 minute difference from what time I normally have to wake up, but man is it miserable going to bed knowing that it’ll take me a long time to fall asleep and I’ll probably wake up at least once in the middle of the night, but I still have to be at work before the sun even THINKS about coming up. I think I’d enjoy this job so much more if I didn’t have to do openers/work through peak every. single. shift. You aren’t alone partner 🥺

Thanks, hope this first week treated you well. That alarm is so rough, but once I get there and get working, I just try to keep moving. I almost fell asleep on my way home though, which is kind of scary. I'm def not the only one feeling it at my store.

Yeah, I get the same way. I wake up at the same time every morning, go to bed the same time every night. Shifting my schedule is going to be a nightmare. I close, but when I'm in early I literally will wake up hours before my alarm set hours earlier than normal.

I hope no one is clopening with these changes. That would be rough.

What is the new change?? We haven't been told yet. I'm guessing that's what our meeting is about this week?
CoffeeChesirecat [OP]1 points11m ago
My entire district is moving our open up time to 4 am. It seems to be a wide-spread thing because I'm seeing baristas talking about it across the country. Also, your meeting could also be about these new training "pods" we are doing. I don't know a whole lot about those though.

Oh my god. 4am?? Jesus. That's too early 😭
CoffeeChesirecat [OP]1 points11m ago
I know 😭 I'm actually upset about this. I'm fine with 5 or 6 am, but once we get into the middle of the night, I'm not ok. I have so many sleep problems and have done poorly working in overnight situations. I love this job, but I'm afraid I won't be my best self. There is no way out of opening though bc I'm a ssv.

It's honestly so damaging to mental health to be waking up in the middle of the night like that. We are going to lose a lot of partners because of that shift. I used to work night shifts at the hospital and then went to a 4 am shift and that was the most depressed I have ever been. I wasn't functioning at that point. Anyone who works that early should get paid more
