Refresher Law suit (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Luna_1406
Just herd about a law suit of a woman against the siren in newyork. apperently he refresher base(and assumed the others) are grape juice. I looked into it and the strawberry acai, the drink the lawsuit is based on, doesn't actually have any strawberry acai in it. Almost all bases for refreshera are a grape extract it seems. Intresting to say the least.

its actually pretty common for a lot of juices to use white grape juice as the base for the juice and then a small amount of whatever flavor you want it to be. i found an answer from this link [ https://www.quora.com/Why-are-fruit-juices-made-of-mostly-white-grape-juice-but-are-named-a-different-fruit-juice ] that i want to quote because i thought they worded it very well:

“White grape juice is used as a base for juice blends so they can write “100% Juice” on the label. White grape juice doesn’t taste like anything, but it does grow on vines and it is made almost entirely of natural sugar and water. If you want to make a juice blend, start with white grape juice, then add cranberry or raspberry or whatever you want to put on your label to sound appetizing, and you can still say 100% juice and no sugar added, or whatever your buzzwords of choice may be. And you won’t have to lie.”

the funny thing about starbucks specifically is that although they use white grape juice in all their refreshers, youll find that like you said, the strawberry acai base doesnt even actually have any strawberries in it lol
ive not actually read the labels on any of the other refreshers so im not sure if the other ones are all artificial too but . that pineapple base is way too offensive to not have any pineapple in it at all… right?

So out of curiosity I just looked up the ingredients https://imgur.com/a/PyTLKCf

So the question is what do they mean by natural ingredients and flavors
StormTheParade 10 points 11m ago
Natural flavours is regulated by the FDA and are flavours/aromas that come from natural things (plant and animal products) usually during the process of making whatever product you're consuming.

AFAIK they aren't required to specify what exactly those flavours come from, but it isn't (or shouldn't be) in any way unsafe unless you have some very specific, very uncommon allergy.

I once tried to explain this to a guest and she looked at me like I was a maniac.
Apopheniacal 16 points 11m ago
I always assumed they could get away with it because there is strawberry/dragonfruit/pineapple pieces in the drink itself, but I guess I never bothered to check for the acai/mango/passionfruit.

What is she suing based on? You can find a full list of ingredients on the Starbucks website

I think it’s cuz it doesn’t actually have açaí.
lewabwee 4 points 11m ago
If that’s all I can’t imagine she has much grounds to justify the suit.

Jimmy John’s got sued because the sprouts they were putting on sandwiches weren’t technically sprouts. Don’t underestimate what someone can get sued for
LilacFlores 6 points 11m ago
You can technically get sued for anything, doesn’t mean you’ll win
lewabwee 1 points 11m ago
“Natural flavors” is just such a common ingredient and this is basically suing for that.

I mean maybe I’m missing part of the whole story. I haven’t looked. But suing over natural flavors is a losing lawsuit due to immense precedent.

White grape juice? Always has been 🔫
rudebii 3 points 11m ago
Sure sounds like handcrafted quality drinks to me, lol.

But yeah, white grape juice thing is super common.

Our bases in the UK don't contain strawberries. The strawberry portion of the drink comes from the inclusions. Before they dyed the juice pink, the strawberry inclusions are what gave the drink it's color.

Yeah. The refreshers are all made from white grape juice. So is there peach juice. Have you never read the ingredients. I tell this to everyone.
molwalk 2 points 11m ago
Cool Lime is just white grape juice. There's no lime in it at all
Pixiedusted1321 1 points 11m ago
The peach juice is actually white grape?! :(
Luna_1406 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
The peach I can not confirm is white grape,I only know the refresher bases are.
