What do customers mean when they order “to go”(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by nobelchic
Is there a specific way of preparing the items they ordered? Some guy ordered a loaf to go and I assumed it meant not heated so I put it in the brown bag then he started yelling at me saying “no I ordered to go!” And got mad at me for not leaving the wrapper on it. To me, to go means it’s still ready to eat but not warmed? If u just want the wrapper on it then just say that. Especially because this happened before with other baristas but he still doesn’t specify and just says “to go”

I assume some stores have some version of a to go bags, or maybe even delivery options. But most of me thinks he’s probably a dumbass who doesn’t realize all our food and drink items come in the same packaging and yelling “to go!” Doesn’t change that.
Though unless specified you will always take pastries out of the packaging, and heat them up if the customer asks.

If he does it again I would tell him that there is no difference in the way we package to go orders vs cafe orders and if he wants us to leave it in the wrapper he should specify that.

Before covid we could serve hot drinks in the white mugs and food on the white plates. "For here".

But then wouldn’t “to-go” just be what we normally do?

For everyone who orders to-go at my store I'll just cheerily say "oh, it's all to-go, haha!" like the silly goose they are 👍
