i'm a barista and i've been here for just over a year, and i feel like for the past few months my shifts have been waiting specifically for me to get here to send me on a trash run. every single day as soon as i clock in they send me on a trash run. like before i even clock in they tell me that they'll be sending me on one lol. at first i was fine with it cus i am normally scheduled from 6-closing because i have school in the mornings, but even on weekends when i get here at 3 or something it's still a trash run as soon as i get there. the dumpsters at my store are pretty far away from the store (like 8 minutes walking) and it's always always ALWAYS 90 degrees out during the summer. i always get back like 30 minutes later and start my shift super sweaty 🥲

I think you should start documenting every time they do this and then when you feel ready have a convo with your shift and manager about it

8 minutes? that certainly can’t be safe and definitely isn’t acceptable carrying something so heavy for such a long walk. what if there’s too much trash and you have to take multiple trips? that’s so long. i would be so pissed

my record is having to take 4 trips on a clean play day and having to wash the trashes it took me over an hour 😵💫

Do you dislike doing it or is it just that it’s been happening super frequently now? At my store, there’s one partner who specifically enjoys doing trash runs/would usually volunteer first and now our shifts will ask her specifically since they know she will/wants to. Maybe your shifts are thinking the same thing since you’ve done it in the past without a problem, so they figure you’re fine with it? But talking to your shifts or manager about it if it’s something you’d rather not be immediately assigned to every time would be good though
