please help me order my drink correctly? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by HaloGirl66_77
So I've been getting the same order for a long time, a Trenta iced coffee with vanilla, 2 packets of sugar and a touch of skim milk, and it was perfect.

Then one day the Starbucks was out of iced coffee so they suggested the cold brew to me. When I asked what the difference was they said it was stronger, and hey that sounded good to me so I ordered a Trenta cold brew with vanilla, 2 packets of sugar and a touch of skim milk, and all was good.

Then I went thru circumstances that kept me away from my Starbucks location for 3 months. But when I finally went back in, I ordered a Trenta cold brew with vanilla, 2 packets of sugar and a touch of skim milk, but it came out so oversweet. I thought it was a one off but it has happened a few more times.

So this morning instead I ordered a Trenta cold brew with vanilla, 1 packet of sugar and a touch of skim milk. Still too sweet. I was in a hurry so I headed out but for the life of me I don't know how to change my order other than going back to iced coffee.

Now I don't know what goes on behind the counter and how many pumps I get or any of that. I didn't know if there was some unknown additive that might be making it sweeter?

I want to make things easy on my barista and not be the one who keeps returning drinks.

Can you help me fix my order? I just want it to taste vanilla and slightly sweet with a touch of skim milk. I would be so thankful for any help.

Thank you for what you do.

How you ordered it was correct. My guess is that they’re a new hire and confused - they’re probably adding classic syrup like we would normally add to iced coffee. When you order next time maybe mention that it’s been overly sweet and that you want to make sure there’s nothing else added like classic syrup. There’s a high amount of turn over atm and new hires so they’re probably just confusing what does and doesn’t get sweetened by default (Starbucks loves its inconsistency)

This comment made the most sense.

Ok, thank you so much!

Yea of course! It may be worth it to call that location and let them know, too. They can make sure their people on bar know standards for ice coffee va cold brew (iced coffee comes sweetened by default whereas cold brew does not).

Thank you again 🙂

Yeah don’t do this.

Maybe the store learned that it is full pumps of vanilla not half for ice coffee and cold brew, u could always ask in store about it

Ok, thanks!

I just want to thank everyone who responded to my question. It was lovely for you to take time out of your day to help me figure this out. You guys are the best! ❤️

Cold brew is "sweeter" by default because of the roast and the process. I have always found our iced coffee to be quite strong.
HaloGirl66_77 [OP] 2 points 11m ago
Interesting. Thanks!
Wonderful-Put-5972 2 points 11m ago
Maybe few pumps of vanilla or no sugar packet??
HaloGirl66_77 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
I don't know how many pumps vanilla they put in before and reducing the amount of sugar packets seemed to have no effect.

a trenta would have 7 pumps of vanilla. i would say make sure they’re not putting classic but the previous iced coffee would’ve had classic unless you said something

Thank you!

There's a chance too much vanilla is being added. You can always specify how many pumps of vanilla you would like. A standard iced coffee comes with 7 pumps in a trenta and a cold brew comes with half that.
Perhaps things got switched around or your cold brew is getting 7 instead.
Chances are, your baristas will be more than happy to help you find the right balance (especially if you're going to be more regular). But if in doubt, you can always specify pumps and maybe experiment a bit.

Thanks so much!

shouldn’t the cold brew still get 7 full pumps since the syrup was an add-on? i was taught that when a cold brew already comes with syrup (like a vsc cold brew) it gets half pumps but if a customer adds a syrup themselves it gets full pumps
Bhaisaab86 7 points 11m ago
They (silently) changed the standard recently. All cold brews get 1/2/3/4 even if it’s an add on
ecw2002 1 points 11m ago
omg fr? can you remember where you saw it by chance ?
truecrimeANDchill 2 points 11m ago
The POS shows it as well as the recipe cards.
Ok-Painting-6972 1 points 11m ago
I guess we could clarify between CBS and hot bar pumps, but yeah it's 1/2/3/4 hot bar pumps even as an add-on

Are you wanting classic? That drink will come w 7pumps classic, 2 pumps vanilla and a sugar packet. Classic is just sweetener w/o flavor so adding all that can be overwhelming
HaloGirl66_77 [OP] 1 points 11m ago
When I originally got the iced coffee I think they were giving me vanilla instead of classic. At least I think I remember the person ringing me up said that. So I think I need to tell them to hold the classic. Thanks for helping me figure that out. I really appreciate it 🙂
