quitting the job-i need advice (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by mahimaggarwal
i’ve been working at sbux since february and transferred to a new location in june. the manager at my new location is very hard to talk to and very inconsiderate. i originally had asked for an LOA for school, family, and health issues around for the next few week around two weeks ago. she said she can’t grant the LOA to me because she doesn’t have enough staff and “we could work together to find a solution”. i said ok i’m fine with that but instead she schedules me for 31 hours the week before school and the week school starts. i’m getting frustrated because she keeps insisting that i have to find my own coverage if i can’t come to those shifts. i’m done. i cant handle this job anymore. i’m physically and emotionally exhausted and tired. i want to quit before work next wednesday. i cant find any coverage because everyone at my store has two jobs or school. i know i should put a two weeks in but i’m literally tied. i cannot work 60+ hours in the span of two weeks. i do want to come back and work at sbux again so i’m very confused. any advice? will i have problems getting rehired if i don’t give a two weeks??

if you quit , it’s no longer your responsibility to find any coverage. don’t let any try to tell you otherwise cause it’s a lie

its possible you may be marked down as ineligible for rehire if you leave without a two weeks (as it sounds like your boss is a bit shit). Even though two weeks notice is still just a courtesy, many employers act like its a requirement and may retaliate if not given.
that being said, please do what is best for you. If you cant take it, quit. You could always work at a different coffee shop if youre not allowed back, look for greener pastures. Best of luck

You can apply for medical LOA if you can provide medical documents regardless of manager approval. Sedgwick will grant the approval and it can start ASAP
Store managers don’t have a day for medical LOA
