Caramel Macchiato Rules: (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by ConductorMeaty
I don't know how many times I have to express this, but an UPSIDE DOWN CARAMEL MACCHIATO IS THE SAME AS A VANILLA LATTEE WITH CARAMEL DRIZ. just like how whenever a customer says "yeah can you stir it for me?", YOU ARE WASTING MY TIME AND MY TEAM'S TIME WITH UNNECESSARY STEPS DURING PEAK. i've been working in coffee for 8 years (1 year with SBUX coming up) and i want the message to be loud and clear: DO NOT ASK FOR A STIRRED OR UPSIDE DOWN CARAMEL MACCHIATO. YOU WILL GET A VANILLA LATTE WITH CARAMEL DRIZ. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE.

Thank You.

Ok, I get not wanting to stir drinks. But what’s the big deal with ordering upside down? It’s cheaper and fewer modifications compared to a latte with caramel drizzle and one less pump of vanilla, and it’s easier for some people to remember. There is no stirring involved. I don’t see a problem.
ConductorMeaty [OP] -15 points 11m ago
it's not cheaper, it's the same price
echowolf9 15 points 11m ago
Literally just checked iced caramel macchiato is 90 cents cheaper than an iced latte with vanilla and caramel drizzle.

source?

I mean, you’re technically wrong. It’s not the same drink since the macchiato has less vanilla than the vanilla latte. It’s not a huge difference but if someone orders a caramel macchiato upside down, just make it for them? It’s less annoying than having to stir the drink for them
TrueEuphoria21 19 points 11m ago
I thought people only ordered it that way because it's cheaper? I am not really sure but yeah those extra steps even though minor are really annoying.
Necessary_Low939 2 points 11m ago
The upside caramel macchiato was 10 cents cheaper two years ago
ConductorMeaty [OP] -3 points 11m ago
with the price changes recently within a couple years, the drinks are now the same price
Necessary_Low939 -5 points 11m ago
I literally said two years ago bro. Read.

i tested it out on the POS system awhile ago and it's the same price.
Minimiahmoose 8 points 11m ago
Yeah but you get an extra pump of vanilla with a vanilla latte ;) lol (just being a butt)
iqueefkief 8 points 11m ago
nah this is a perfectly valid point and is the sole reason upside down should be used rather than ordering it as a vanilla latte

OP is incorrect

Honestly, most won’t taste the difference

I just tell the customer ok, roll my eyes and make it however. it is not worth wasting the time back and forth with the customer. if they want to remain a dumbass and not think about what they order that is on them not me to fix. this happens all the time at my store and all we do is say “ok” anything else. it is not worth the headache. stupid is as stupid does!!!
MagazineAware3012 7 points 11m ago
Interesting. At my store we actually make it upside down, syrup shots ice then milk and caramel drizzle on top.
borrowedurmumsvcard 12 points 11m ago
that makes sense but im pretty sure that’s not the standard
fuwaldah 6 points 11m ago
I'm confused by this. When somebody orders an upside down caramel macchiato, I put the caramel on the bottom. That would not be the same as what you're describing. I think you're maybe making them wrong.
geekgurl81 2 points 11m ago
We have a regular who always orders an iced white mocha with the whip stirred in before the milk, because the heat of the espresso melts it and makes for a better consistency. We had her try it with VSC and it just wasn’t the same for her, and she’s lovely and always leaves a good tip so we spoil her, we all love her.
But I would be irritated if anyone else did that, tbh😂🤣

There's a local coffee shop in my area that does "blended Caramel Macchiatos". I have never tried it before and I have no idea how they make it, but I have tons of customers asking for a blended Caramel Macchiato. I just tell them "the point of the caramel macchiato is it's a layered drink. If you want it blended, I'm just going to make you a caramel frappuccino".
ConductorMeaty [OP] 1 points 11m ago
exaaaaactly
skrilllexi 1 points 11m ago
Actually macchiatos have one less pump of syrup. So it's a vanilla latte with caramel drizzle minus one pump of vanilla syrup
JasminePorkRice 1 points 11m ago
idk how the “upside down” trend started because saying stirred is a lot more accurate to what people want
adventurelyfe 1 points 11m ago
Lol. I feel the same way. People don’t know what they’re ordering 99% of the time.
_w00sh 1 points 11m ago
Im so glad only a few ppl order this
_w00sh 1 points 11m ago
At my store at least
kristis3233 1 points 11m ago
My SM and I were just talking about this the other day! Does upside down mean Carmel on the bottom ??? What do you think & what do you do?
fuwaldah 1 points 11m ago
I don't understand how somebody could interpret this any other way.
ConductorMeaty [OP] 1 points 11m ago
whenever someone says upside down on a caramel macchiato, it typically just means they want it stirred and not have the shots only on the top. i assume all the karen's have a conference and discuss this
never-been-better 1 points 11m ago
LOL - Karen's had a conference....

No upside down means it’s drizzle around the cup

That’s how I was taught in 2013
ConductorMeaty [OP] 1 points 11m ago
upside down means the drink should be made upside down. vanilla syrup with milk, then add shots on top after the drink is already made. typically shots are put on the bottom, so upside down means: upside down.
fuwaldah 2 points 11m ago
No... that wouldn't be upside down. They want the caramel and the shots on the bottom.
Necessary_Low939 1 points 11m ago
So instead of the drizzle being on the top, it’s on the bottom now or around the cup.
Necessary_Low939 -2 points 11m ago
Replies you should consider:

“You have hands right?”

“Stir sticks are over there.”

“Sorry we don’t do that now”

I remember in 2016, a guy always insist we stir his drink with a stir. I just swirl it and make the milk extra hot.

Edit: upside down means caramel around the cup, so content is melted
