My store finally received a new espresso machine. On the old ones I was specifically told not to steam vanilla sweet cream as it messes up the wands (even though they are cleaned often). I carried that with me when we got the new machines. So can we steam vanilla sweet cream or not? I hate when customers get angry with me because "another store does it" and they think I'm just being petty. I want them happy but I don't want to mess up my brand new bars! Please help lol

Been using Mastrena 2’s since 2019. Never heard of not being able to steam sweet cream. It’s loud, but other than that, no issues.

Yepp i think u definitely can steam sweet cream too. What produces a more horrendous sound is the heavy cream. I hate when people order cappuccinos with heavy cream. Just pay for a latte if u gotta have the heavy cream because it doesn't foam and it makes the most ear bleeding noise ever lol

I was told we can steam any milk and milk alternatives. But not the sweet cream because the vanilla syrup?? I've been a partner since the beginning of 2020 and a shift for about 4 months. Are your wands harder to clean, or do they not temp correctly sometimes?? Just curious cuz this shit bothers me why I am the only "seasoned" partner who was told this 😅

Idk why u were told that lol i mean we steam apple juice. We also steam lemonade for the honey citrus mint teas

The wand covers protect the wands for the most part. You are fine to steam sweet cream. We steam cinnamon in milks so it’s fine.

I've never been told not to

Ugh Why the hell do they want sweet cream steamed?! If it’s not allowed then I’d just do cream cut with 2% steamed and add vanilla syrup in the cup. (Or bean powder if they agreed)… I don’t remember ever being asked to steam VSC. But we did have a super annoying regular who would get extra hot lattes with a layer of VSCCF. And she’d whine every time a new person double checked she wanted hot with cold foam “I ordered it extra hot specifically so you wouldn’t ask, I don’t know why I get asked so often” 🙄. Like hey lady we double check because your drink is weird AF and annoying to make.

You can steam sweet cream on the new machines... you also could on the old machines.

There have been so many management changes in just the 2 years I've been there. With coffee masters (who are no longer at my store) who trained me said no never do that. I'm more than happy to that moving forward if they were wrong.. but I really appreciate all the feed back 🤙

We steam matcha and the number one ingredient in our matcha is sugar. This is definitely not standard.
dazedandconfusedhere1 points11m ago
You can, but if your store is saying no you could suggest half and half and add two pumps of vanilla, which will best mimic the texture and sweetness
Necessary_Low9391 points11m ago
U can. I honestly don’t understand how people drink straight up heavy cream.

PSA about the heavy cream and noise-
If you aerate right, there's a way to reduce the noise by a LOT. Might be a few videos out there that can help.

Those make sense because they have natural sugars no? I know lemonade has to have added sugar for sure. But I'll try and reach out about it in my district.
