Anyone know how the bereavement pay works?(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Jcooke795
I just recently lost my mother and used my sick time to cover two days I took off, I'm supposed to return Wednesday, but mentally, am not ready to do so. My manager insists I save it but why I don't understand. I had to travel four hours to be with my family during this time as well. Any help at all for anyone who know how it works would be awesome and I know this subreddit is full of Starbucks fam that's willing to help. 💛 Thank you in advance

You should have used the 2 days of bereavement time to cover your absence to be with your family. Just write it in the book the same way you write sick time except with the code B. You can’t save bereavement, it’s just kind of there for the circumstance and if you don’t use it, you lose it. You should use sick time to cover the shifts after bereavement where you don’t feel ready to return.

Bereavement is 2 days - 4 if the funeral is out of state
You can use sick or vacation time to cover any additional days you need off after that.

First, I am so sorry for your loss. Personally I would take a personal leave of absence. Two days is not enough and if you don’t feel up to it or you need the time to grieve. They might have suggested you save the bereavement for the funeral but really it it could work for both but you can only use it once. Call you SM today and start the process of personal LOA. I think you can take up to a month. Good luck. And again my deepest condolences.
