Just failed the second sequencing test today and I really hate the way of calling drink (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by Hordesoldier
I failed the sequencing test second time. I dont know how much time they give you to learn and practice but in my store it is 1 month. Yes I joined starbuck 1 and a half month ago.
I have nothing to complain about because I do everything slow and I missed some step , that is why I failed. But there is one thing I hate is calling drink.
Everyday my colleague and me just call customers to hand off like this : Mr / Ms “ name “ , please. But when I do the test I need to read a long fucking name of the drink. For example Grande Ice Shaken black tea with ruby grape fruit and honey…
And my country is not a english native country so calling drink in Sb way is really bullshit. Do you guy from UsA and UK need to calling drink like that ?

I usually just say the name on the drink. I also wouldn’t say mr/Mrs because I’m not trying to accidentally misgender someone.

I wish I could show my trainer your answer

Just bring it up like “in todays world I don’t feel comfortable with using gender terms like mr/miss/ sir / ma’am, etc because I don’t want to offend someone by accidentally misgendering them & their pronouns. we can’t assume genders”

We just say “Cafe for…” “Mobile for….”

this is short and effective. Imagine you have a long line of customer and you need to calling drink like me in the test…I bet all customers will tell us to shut up

barista from usa here, usually i just say the name or mobile for ‘name’ if it’s not too busy (i’m mainly a closer so it’s usually not terribly busy) but during peak if it’s a common name like john i’ll say ‘venti mocha for john’ so incase there’s anyone else waiting for a drink for john they’ll know it’s not theirs.
Hordesoldier [OP] 3 points 11m ago
Yes, in this case I agree we should calling drink like you said.
One question : If John order multiple drinks and not the same kind, how will you call ? Real question, not joking. Sometime I have same name customers in peak time too and they order multiple drinks.

If it’s a cafe order I’ll call out “first for John” “second for John” etc.

If it’s a mobile I’ll wait until the last drink and then call out “mobile for John”

piggybacking off this; i say “i have 4 drinks for john!” and i make sure to put them in a tray. if there’s no takers immediately i’ll state the drinks one by one, so “i have a grande black tea, venti mocha, venti latte and a grande strawberry refresher for john!” and that usually helps. sometimes people forget what they originally order. but as long as the drink tickets are facing the customers they can usually see and grab for themselves. hope this helps

thank you very much. I will try this way
bottlehalffull 2 points 11m ago
My manger requires us to call out the name and the drink name, thank them, and because I live in California we have to ask if they need a straw.
Hordesoldier [OP] 1 points 11m ago
But is there a short version of Ice shaken black tea with ruby grapefruit and honey or Ice shaken hibicus tea with pomegranate pearl ?
We are trying to tell our customers to drink without straw here too but seem like they like straw
bottlehalffull 2 points 11m ago
We dont have those beverages in the US
Hordesoldier [OP] 1 points 11m ago
I see, good for you guy then haha
bottlehalffull 2 points 11m ago
We do have an Iced brown sugar shaken espresso and we are expected to say that whole thing lol
awkward_cat_man_ 2 points 11m ago
I just say the name. If they have more than one I say one of two or two of three whatever what have you
Hordesoldier [OP] 1 points 11m ago
thank you.
clouds183 2 points 11m ago
we just call out the names of the customers
Hordesoldier [OP] 3 points 11m ago
Im glad to hear your answer. It prove that even in a english native country no one callng drink by the bullshit way in the test I need to pass
clouds183 3 points 11m ago
we also don’t have a test to pass

Well, I guess SB is not the same in every country. The management company is different.
