what's the workload like? (interested in applying)(self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by plantsforsoup
I'm interested in applying at a local Starbucks but I'm really curious if I'll be able to handle it. I've been out of the workforce for a few years bc of health issues. I work great in teams, I love socializing with people, and I'd like to think I can handle rushes. however rn I'm kind of out of shape lmao and that worries me the most. should I avoid applying as a first job back? many thanks :,) <3

The jobs fine, it’s just the customers that ruin it

It depends who you work with. Good teamwork can help you leave early when closing.
I worked with someone who always talked, would leave like 30 minutes early, and had nothing memorized after like a month. I wanted smack them with the caramel sack so bad, I s2g.
I absolutely dreaded working with them and it would be better off if they were not scheduled to work. It made the workload much higher, especially when they were not concious of the flow of things.

there are good stores, don’t get me wrong, but the majority are toxic environments! be it from the store manager, shift supervisors or co-workers or some time all three. it can make it a hard job as then on top you have to deal with the privileged clientele. again I am not saying this is true at all stores, because it is definitely not. what I would advise is to go to the store you want to work at during a closing shift (between 5-9 depending on your area) and talk to the baristas. be honest with them about your interest of working there and hopefully they will be honest with you about what level of bs they have to navigate through on a daily basis. I wish you the best. it is a really easy job, but the environment in which you will have to work makes all the difference.

Standing in one spot for several hours or lots of shifting weight from one foot to another. Lift up to 50 lbs. Lots of bending over to retrieve milks. Requires a lot of social interaction & memorization.

How often are you lifting things? Everything else seems pretty doable tbh, I appreciate the input

Greatly depends on your position on the floor that day but most positions require you to lift some sort of weight.
