It's common for a hiring manager to say they expect somebody to stay for at least a year. Saying yes isn't a legal commitment or anything.

Mine was simple they just brought up my experience at the last one and called them to ask if I was a good employee or not then I was hired

I got a similar ask on rehire, but slightly different circumstances. I just got rehired at the same original location after just under a year away. My manager asked me to commit to working for Starbucks for a year, but not at the same location (I am a college student, so I wouldn’t be able to commit to that). But she explained to me that it was because our location has a really bad turnover rate, which is borne out by the fact that I can count on one hand the number of my current coworkers who I worked with last year, lol.
