Using sick time for remodel? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by shrek_4_president
Starting September 1st, my store will be closed for 2 weeks for a remodel. I had planned to work at the other store in my town during this time, but over the past few months my mental health has tanked and I haven't been able to do anything but sleep and go to work like a zombie.

I really want to just take the two weeks off to get better, but I only have 5 vacation hours and I cannot afford to take it off. I know that sick time can be used for mental health reasons, but is this instance too "convenient" for starbucks?

I am also in the process of getting ready to promote to SSV and I don't want my SM to view this as me just taking time off for vacation, but I have no idea how to convey that for me it makes sense to do it when it isn't inconveniencing everyone else VS needing time off after the remodel/even before.

I know some managers will use sick time for a mental health day but not for more than one day. Talk with your SM and be real about burn out and needing at least two mental health days, more if she is willing. Better to return to work refreshed.
