Anyone know how to make this better? Sanitizer just kills my hands 😭(i.redd.it)

Gloves while it heals, especially if it's an open wound.
Otherwise, a lot of people highly recommend O'Keefe's Working Hands lotion!
Also with the sani specifically, make sure it is *room temp* and not steaming when you fill it! And if possible, try to rinse off your hands every time you come into contact with the sanitiser.
I used to get horrible blotchy rashes all the way from wrist to elbow when I would do dishes at my store. Keeping the sani at room temp helps a lot, and limiting the amount of time it sat on my skin helped a bit too. Some people are more sensitive to it than others and it can be pretty brutal :/

I deffo need to try that lotion. I’m always doing dishes or cleaning something so i can never escape the sani 😂😂 Gloves have been kind of a help, water always gets inside of them though because they’re always too big 😭
i’ll try the room temp sani too!! thank you so much!!

I second the O’Keefe’s working hands lotion!! It’s amazing

Working hands all the way. And start wearing dishwashers gloves if you're doing dishes/breakdown. I had the same issue with sani as well

^^ pretty much what everyone else has said but also..
your store should have pH testing kits for the sani. test it and let your SM know if it’s too high. my hands were getting eaten alive when i found out our sani was almost 2x as acidic as it should. after letting the SM know, it became a lot more bearable.

Temperature is a big factor here because adding heat increases the concentration of the chemicals. It's why it's so important that it's room temp -- at my store it's literally on the poster above the dish station. I keep having to correct the partners dispensing hot sanitizer, it's too strong and can hurt people.

imathrowayslc1 points10m ago
Same. Goodby sweet hands. I’ll see you again sometime in the spring.

Oh man! Only my second here, but at least we don’t have the hand washing timers anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I still wash my hands often and as needed, but damn last winter was tough.

O’Keefes is good. Aquaphor is better. Which ever you use? Slather your hands with it before you go to bed, put some cotton socks on your hands or cotton “waiter” type gloves and go to sleep. I did CS a lot and every clean play. My hands would crack from doing dishes and scrubbing those nasty pitchers. Aquaphor really helped. Your fingers looks like dermatitis though, but I’m not an MD…. Good luck!

I try to keep a small travel size thing of lotion in my apron so when I have the time, I apply it. Washing my hands and dealing with the cleaners leaves my hands and nails scaly and nasty feeling, so this is what I've tried to do to stop that from happening. My nails are still brittle, but not like before and my skin is ok now

Why is this marked nsfw

So you have to click it to see it, i don’t want anyone to see my deadpool looking finger without wanting to 😭

the sanitizer makes my hands crack and burns my lungs. I just started using the Hobart for everything. I do breakdown several times a week.
for just the regular towel sanitizer bucket, try to rinse your hands off and not leave sanitizer on them.

I used to stock shelves and work in a restaurant and let me tell you... you never notice all the tiny little cuts on your hands until you dip them into sanitizer.

Big pro tip for the contact dermatitis. You may want to invest in a pair of white cotton gloves (the kind you can get from handling jewelry or glassware, they’re pretty inexpensive on Amazon). You will also need some thing like Aquaphor or A+D ointment or even some thing like Vaseline.
You'll want to create a barrier that can form while you sleep to help restore the emollient nature of your hands, this will also help build up the water barrier by putting a layer of something that naturally repels water do this as necessary to prevent more open sores. If you do have open sores this will be a nice way to medicate and treat whilst you’re sleeping similar to like when you use a pimple patch before bed.
Put a semi-genorous amount on your hands and begin to rub in, before its fully rubbed in slap on the gloves, and go to sleep. In the AM rub in anything that wasn't absorbed (which should be minimal) and go about your day as normal. At work wash, moisturize continuously. For the on the job day-to-day I use the Norwegian formula hand moisturizer from Neutrogena, if is great for the sub-zero snow, it's good enough for me.

I’m not a doctor but to me this looks like contact dermatitis. Your store theoretically can order dishwashing gloves but might be worth an ask to SM if you can bring some for yourself. Do your research and consult a medical person if you’re able but it might be worth hydrocortisone cream from the drugstore for when you’re off. If you can’t afford a doctor visit and you’re worried about medication interactions or potential side effects you can always go to the drugstore when the pharmacy is open bc you can ask the pharmacist on staff
