Is there a strategy to getting as much sick pay as possible before quitting? (self.starbucksbaristas)
submitted by BlooperBoo
Im a 262 and finally found another job. Im not sure my sanity could survive another holiday.

However, I have 93 hours of sick pay that I don’t want to leave behind if I can help it, at least partially.

Anyone have suggestions on how to hustle the siren as much as I can? Lol

looks like you have a paid “vacation” coming your way…or perhaps you’ve caught a “stomach bug” 😉

I totally would but SM already went on a rant about how she should have fired me for getting covid 🙄 idk if Id last another callout lol

They literally can’t fire you for calling in sick. I smell a lawsuit if they do. Use your sick hours and say you got a stomach flu 😂

find someone who wants the hours, start your new job and use all the sick hours you can to cover your shifts lol

Any surgeries you were planning on getting? Could use sick hours for x amount of weeks you need to recover.

I just recently quit as well and found out that they’ll pay you for vacation hours left behind and sick hours too I think. I had over 100 sick hours and 40 vacation and got a hefty check a few weeks after my last day

why are people downvoting you 😭. whether you get paid out for sick time depends on local laws, i’m pretty sure starbucks always pays out vacation time though, no matter local laws.

Like everyone else said write it in the book for your days you are not scheduled. If you manager asks ( which technically it is none of their business) say doctors/ dentist appointments/ taking care of other family members. All of those are good reasons.

You can list as many sick/vaca hours as you have in the book. So if I were you I’d maybe put your 2 weeks in and just use them for a big paycheck. Either that or just tell your manager you wanna use them all before you leave.

It’s unlikely they’ll honor sick time. My patch cracked down on using sick time for days off. The only way for a sick time to be approved is if you request it for a day you were scheduled but had to call out

Okay. Do I have to miss a day? I was under the impression I had to be sick for sick pay but Ive been hearing a lot of different things

Nope! Lol I literally worked an 8 hour and in the book I told them to pay me for 30 sick hours

👀 well shit thats good to know

This isn't policy FYI and most managers would not allow this as it could get them in trouble.

As much as I hate to say it, unless you get sick or schedule some appointments, you will unfortunately forfeit most of your sick time.
